Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave has confirmed that his son, Jethro Lazenby, 30, has died. “With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away,” the front man of rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds said in a statement on Tuesday, May 10. “We would be grateful for family privacy at this time." Lazenby was reportedly living a live of despair before his death, stealing food to survive.

Lazenby's death comes after one of Cave’s twin sons with his current wife Susie Cave died back in 2015 reportedly after accidentally falling from a cliff near Brighton, England. Before his death, the son, Arthur Cave, had taken the psychedelic drug LSD. Cave now has two surviving sons.

After Arthur's death, Cave wrote about the "vastness" of his grief, saying he felt Arthur with him all the time. "I hear him talk to me, parent me, guide me, though he may not be there," the musician, best known for his work with The Bad Seeds, had said. He later moved to Los Angeles with his wife because "Brighton had just become too sad".

Jethro Lazenby's cause of death has not been revealed. Lazenby was born in Melbourne in 1991 and learnt that Cave was his father only at the age of eight. He later began modelling and even appeared in the 2007 film 'Corroboree' and 2011's 'My Little Princess', which also starred Isabelle Huppert. More recently, he had worked as a photographer.

Lazenby was jailed for violently attacking his Melbourne-based model mother, Beau Lazenby, in March after demanding that she buy him cigarettes. Just after midnight on March 7, Beau found her son at the front door and he subsequently convinced her to allow him to stay over that night. She reportedly made up a bed for him before going to the room and locking the door. The next morning, an argument broke out between the two when Lazenby asked him mom to buy cigarettes for him. He reportedly kneed his mother in the face, bruising her and causing bleeding.

"While standing in front of the victim the accused has then reached forward and grabbed both the victim's shoulders with his hands," the police prosecutor reportedly told the court. "He lunged forward and kneed the victim to the face and nose, causing bleeding and bruising." He reportedly yelled "I'm going to murder you" three times while holding her down.

Lazenby left the house after the attack on his mom to buy cigarettes, and Beau ran to a pub and asked them to call police. Shortly afterwards, Lazenby was arrested. He had been released on bail from Melbourne Remand Centre last Thursday, May 5. Just four years before attacking is mom, Lazenby was jailed after he violently assaulted his girlfriend multiple times in 2018. He had also threatened to "murder" her.

Striking a deal with prosecutors, Lazenby agreed to plead guilty to one count of unlawful assault and breaching court orders, while remaining charges were dropped, including intentionally causing injury. According to Lazenby's representation Sean Ghattas, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which affected his judgement.

Lazenby eventually dropped off the fashion world's radar with his involvement with the drug culture. After his death, mourners were seen entering his mother's Collingwood home. He is expected to be farewelled in a private ceremony.
