House of the Dragon’ Season 1 is slowly inching toward its conclusion and we have traveled a long way in the prequel’s timeline. Last week’s episode saw the series taking a ten-year time jump and introducing the new cast members. On the other hand, we saw Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) living in a kingdom called Pentos, with his wife Lady Laena Velaryon, and their two children. At this point, viewers believed that they know almost everything about their favorite characters, but one behind-the-scene clip seems to have made it clear that we actually don’t know a lot of things about the show’s characters.

The featurette posted by HBO sees the cast and crew of ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel returning to Spain for filming some of the sequences. A lot of other things were also shown in the featurette, but there’s one scene that made fans curious about Daemon’s sexuality. The clip features a moment that is from a deleted scene of ‘House of the Dragon’ in which Daemon is seen talking to a servant in Pentos and in the next moment, he moves closer to the servant and whispers something in his ear while smirking. However, the deleted scene seems to confirm that Daemon is indeed bisexual and can be seen kissing the servant. The scene sees both characters kissing each while one of Daemon’s kids walks toward him.

The extraordinary moment was first caught by the Twitter fan account ‘Out of the Context House of the Dragon’ and uploaded two stills that suggested that Daemon was involved with a man sexually. However, the conversation soon turned into an argument because fans of George RR Martin’s books categorically stated that Daemon is “not” bisexual in books. On the other hand, many complained that they made Daemon “bisexual”, but forgot to explore the story about an openly queer character, Laenor.

“Daemon is NOT bisexual in the books,” wrote one user. “If they don’t include it in the show, it’s just queerbaiting - and why is that even necessary when they have Laenor to work with?” tweeted another fan. Meanwhile, there were many who believed that the scene did not make the final cut because it will make people feel that Daemon poisoned Laena. A fan noted, “False. The scene was gonna fuel the theory that she was poisoned, they decided to not go through/fuel that theory”.

One of the fans took a sigh of relief that the scene didn’t get featured on the show because it would have been a disservice to the source material. The user tweeted, “Thank god they removed it. George Martin would have hated it. Nothing against LGBTQ but I feel it was a good decision, first people were cribbing because they showed him less affectionate towards his daughter as in books he loved 'em. Now they want something entirely out of books.”

The series gave viewers a subtle hint about Daemon’s sexuality in Episode 5 when he called Laena as beautiful as her brother. This might not be a big moment for a lot of people, but this might be a hint at how he likes men as much as he likes women.

With only four episodes remaining in the Season, we don’t see this story getting explored at any point in time. However, fans do hope that they get to hear something about Daemon’s sexuality as the show progresses.
