PERRIS, CALIFORNIA: Five years after her heroic escape from the "House of Horrors," survivor Jordan Turpin has spoken out about how the ordeal has left her perpetually on the verge of tears. The 22-year-old spent her childhood trapped inside the California home with her 12 siblings before she was able to flee via a window in January 2018.

When asked about her typical day in an interview with Elle, Turpin, who escaped when she was 17, said, "I usually cry. I try to get myself to eat. And then I start to do my makeup, but I cry, so I have to do it over." Her parents, David and Louise, were given a life sentence after she raised the alarm by calling 911 and making an effort to explain the situation to a police officer. Turpin continued by describing her daily routine, "And then I try to do a TikTok, but I'm like, 'Oh, people are going to say this and that about me.' Then I'm like, 'Maybe I should get some air. I'm gonna go outside'... and then I just cry again."

How Riverside County authorities failed others before they placed Turpin siblings in Olguins' care

'I was always super kind because I was scared of everyone'

To rebuild her life from scratch, Turpin began attending community college and working at Taco Bell, but she found it difficult to get along with her coworkers. The influencer, who is associated with modeling and entertainment agencies, admitted that after her harrowing experience with her parents and the Olguins, became "scared of everyone" and thought that nothing would ever get better in her life.

Turpin reportedly said, "I was super nice, and I'd always be like, 'I'm so sorry.' I am super gentle. They would laugh and be like, 'Why is she like that?' I might have been annoying. But I had just gotten out of the foster home, so I was always super kind because I was scared of everyone."

She was compelled to return to her life of solitude during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019, which had an adverse impact on her. She had only recently started to adjust to living away from her home, and the "promised land" of independence felt like a "tease" from which there was "no escape."

She continued, "When everybody started complaining about Covid, we were like, 'Look at us!' People were like, 'This is the worst thing ever!' They could barely handle it when it was only a week. They really don't know."

'Right now, I kind of need a break from my past'

Turpin utilized TikTok to connect with people, just like many of her generation, even though she had no grasp of how social media worked. She amassed tens of thousands of followers on the app, where she started sharing updates about her life and participating in dance trends.

She is now thinking about pursuing a career in music after meeting Hailey Bieber and Charli D'Ameilo. She reportedly said, "Right now, I kind of need a break from my past," as she added that she wanted to take things slowly.
