Going for walks is not new but there is much to know about TikTok's viral “Hot Girl Walk” trend. It is a fitness and lifestyle trend which unsurprisingly originated on TikTok, and it might appear almost identical to traditional walking at first glance.

Basically, hot-girl walkers are simply encouraged to get up, get out, and go for a long walk alone or with workout buddies, for the purposes of mental and physical health. But what does it have to offer you?

What is the 'Hot Girl Walk' trend?

The term was originally given by a 23-year-old TikTok user called Mia Lind, who reportedly began walking as part of her daily routine during the pandemic, as reported by Washington Post. In January 2021, Lind posted her first TikTok video touting the benefits of what she dubbed the “Hot Girl Walk,” as well as the non-negotiable rules of the walk.

The walk simply includes sticking to three facts. It means that you’re only allowed to think about three things on the Hot Girl Walk: Firstly, the things you’re grateful for; secondly, your goals and how you’re going to achieve them; and thirdly, how hot you are. Since then, numerous TikTok videos with the hashtag #HotGirlWalk have appeared on the platform, garnering a total of half a billion views thus far. Many people claim that the fad has boosted their confidence or helped them reach their fitness objectives.

A user on Twitter wrote, "Went on a "hot girl walk" as the TikTok influencers call it. Took a bunch of pictures of pretty trees I had never even noticed before."

4 tips to do it the right way

If you're interested in starting a hot girl walk routine yourself, here are some tips:

1. Get out there: The hardest part is getting started, but blasting a fun playlist can help you get motivated.

2. Dress comfy: A quality shoe and thick socks that provide comfort are a game-changer

3. Just do what you can: Walking for four miles takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes, Lind says, which is about how long it may take someone to go to the gym. But you can also break it up into pieces if that's better for your schedule. "Just going out 20 minutes three times a day, that'll get you to three miles," she says. "Don't push yourself to go too far. Start off small and see where you can go."

4. Be safe: Lind suggests changing up your walking route, letting a buddy know when you head out, or keeping a personal safety device with you.
