MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN: A homeless man randomly stabbed a 61-year-old woman on a street in Midtown, Manhattan, police informed.  The horrific attack occurred on Wednesday, March 2, at about 3.40 pm when the assailant approached the victim around the intersection of W 57th St and Eighth Ave, a block south of Columbus Circle. Her blood was found splattered on the sidewalk two blocks south of Central Park near the USA Brooklyn Diner. The unidentified woman was immediately taken to Roosevelt Hospital in stable condition.

According to NY Post, the bleeding woman ran to Jose Valencia, a 30-year-old construction worker, and his co-workers for help when they were setting up scaffolding. “She was just scared,” he said to the outlet. “We heard a loud scream and she ran up to the guys working on the scaffolding… Basically, she started looking at her arms. Blood was coming down her right arm.” She said she was “just randomly stabbed with a knife.” The worker gave a rag for her to tie around her arm where she got stabbed.

“The blood was coming out and she was bleeding pretty bad, but she was alright,” he said. “At first she didn’t even know she was bleeding,” he said. “She felt something was wrong and then saw the blood falling down her shirt, her arm. The whole shirt she had on was pretty badly covered in blood. That’s when she saw she had a stab wound.”

Valencia said the knife-wielding man “approached her randomly. It’s like if me walking by you and stabbing you in the arm — that’s pretty much what happened.”

'The city is getting dangerous'

Cops and sources say the attacker who was wearing an orange hoodie and black jacket fled west on 57th St. When police responded to the scene, they sat the injured woman down on the steps of a diner nearby while they waited for EMS. Workers nearby were shocked by the attack, while one doorman who was walking across the street from the stabbing scene said,  “A person going around stabbing people is dangerous.” “The city is getting dangerous. Everywhere in New York City is getting dangerous,” he further added as per DailyNews.

'Our city needs major help'

MEAWW reported a similar incident earlier when a mother of five, Elizabeth Gomes, was brutally attacked by a homeless man and ex-convict, Waheed Foster, in an unprovoked attack in New York Subway on September 20, 2022. The brutal attack had caused Gomes' eyes to swell shut, and she said, "Our city needs major help." The victim slammed the city Mayor for the lack of security in the subway and entered a plea. “We’re going through a lot here,’’ Gomes, 33, told the New York Post. “I remember hearing that they would have cops posted on platforms, riding the trains, cops down in a subway. Mayor Adams said especially in the subway,’’ she said, adding, “The mayor said we would have much more cops in the subway and the cops specifically would be patrolling the subways because that’s where the worst of the crimes we are having. Especially at places like Howard Beach station." “There was no one. Why no protection there?” she asked, referring to her September 20 assault. “Obviously, the government or nobody is doing anything for us. When we’re out there, we’re by ourselves, we’re fighting these battles by ourselves, and what they do, they go try to help other countries that have nothing to do with what we’re going through in our own place.”
