An employee of the Proviso West High School was arrested after he was seen physically assaulting and beating a child. The man was caught doing this in a video released by ABC 7 Chicago on YouTube on On Friday night (December 10).

In the video, the employee can be seen grabbing the child and throwing him on the ground in a classroom. It has been reported that the assailant was arrested soon after and further action would be taken against him. According to ABC7 Chicago, Dr James Henderson, Superintendent, release a written statement that stated, "I am extremely disappointed, no-- I am upset by what transpired today. No adult should ever put their hands on a child in that manner- especially not in a school setting."

After the unfortunate incident, Henderson directed the school staff to contact the police and share the incident with them. While the school authorities reported that the man employed with the school was a resource officer, Hillside Police Department, however, said that the offender was not a certified Illinois Police officer. It has been reported that the man will stay in custody until further investigation gets carried out by the authorities.

Immediately after the video went viral on YouTube, people also started reacting to the brutal and unprompted assault of a child in a school that's considered safe by the parents as well as teachers.

On December 11, the Proviso District 209 tweeted through their official handle on Twitter and wrote, "On Friday, Dec. 10th, one of our scholars was assaulted by a School Resource Officer in a classroom at Proviso West. This assault was unprovoked. We will not tolerate anyone treating our scholars in this manner. We had the SRO arrested immediately." One of the users wrote, "#GQP gun freaks: "Having cops in schools will keep our precious children SAFE!!!""

Some other users have also been questioning the school authorities and asking them where were the teacher when the student was being assaulted by someone who was not particularly a part of their staff.
