What is the book about?

"How perfect and clever can our houses be? seems to be the refrain on social media. But what about the life lived in those rooms?" Napier shared this in an Instagram post. So her new book tells a story about each of these rooms. It's a collection of essays walking us through every room in her home, telling the story of a family’s life, of the days that made their home the place she longs for when she’s away. Each essay in Heirloom Rooms will feel like walking through the front door of the collected and loved-in houses Erin and Ben are known for revitalising in HGTV’s hit series, 'Home Town.'

Speaking about the book, Napier has said, "The styling can be an outward reflection of who we are and what we love—but really, our houses are the backdrops of our lives, and celebrations and failures, of growing families. I wanted to write essays about our own home, wherein every room is its own chapter about a particular time in our life together."

Erin's first book was a bestseller

Napier's first children's book had reached third place on the New York Times bestseller list in the category of picture books for children. She had teamed up with her friend and artist Adam Trest to write and illustrate this heartwarming book. The Lantern House is told from the perspective of an old house that, over the years, watches its inhabitants grow, love, learn, grieve, and move away-each leaving their mark on the house. The book was published in May 2022.

According to Napier, the narrative was inspired by her and her husband Ben's own home, a 1925 craftsman in Laurel, Mississippi. She wanted to write this book for her daughters, Helen and May. "I just imagine our girls and the way they're going to love this book," Napier had revealed in an interview with People.
