Ever since Russia invaded Ukraine and attacked major cities in the country, heartbreaking videos and pictures have been pouring all over social media. A newly surfaced video from Ukraine shows a scared German shepherd lying in a ditch beside a dead Ukrainian body.

The footage showcases the aftermath of the attack by Russian troops where a Ukrainian man and one of the two dogs that were with him were gunned down. In the video, a black Mercedes minivan is seen littered with blood and bullet holes. The blood-soaked body of a German shepherd lies crumpled, half on the road and half inside the open door of the van. A pool of blood is visible in the middle of the road, while the other German shepherd sits in a nearby ditch next to a dead body.

Tragic human cost of Russian invasion of Ukraine laid bare as heartbreaking visuals emerge

"Russian soldiers have killed Ukrainian civilians and nearly all of their dogs. Only one German shepherd survived the attack. It's very important to document all of Russia's war crimes in Ukraine," read the caption of the one-minute, six-second long video.

Meanwhile, another clip posted online shows what happened during the minivan attack. The two minutes, 20-second video was shared by @ArmedForcesUkr and the caption translates to "[x3 red exclamation marks] Shooting [Ukrainian flag emoji] by the occupiers of a car with civilian Ukrainians !!! Video 18+"

The video shows a man inside a Mercedes while the air fills with the sound of gunfire, followed by the whimpering of a distressed animal. The man filming cries out in horror as he spots another man lying in the middle of the road next to the still-open car door. The location was reportedly close to the capital, Kyiv.

"More than 2,000 Ukrainian civilians have so far been killed during Russia's ongoing invasion. Children, women, and our defense forces are losing their lives every hour,” said the statement released by Ukraine's State Emergency Service on Wednesday. The statement was later removed.

"Between 24 February morning and midnight last night, our Office has recorded 536 civilian casualties in Ukraine. These include 136 civilians killed, of whom 13 were children, and 400 civilians injured, among them 26 children. Most of these casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, and air strikes. These are only the casualties we were able to cross-check, and the real toll is likely to be much higher," read the statement released by the United Nations Office on March 1.

"In just seven days, one million people have fled Ukraine, uprooted by this senseless war. Hour by hour, minute by minute, more people are fleeing the terrifying reality of violence. Countless have been displaced inside the country. And unless there is an immediate end to the conflict, millions more are likely to be forced to flee Ukraine," said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi's statement released on March 3.
