#HeWentToJared trends after Angry Internet blasts Trump for hiring Jared Kushner: 'We paid the price'
A new viral video puts the spotlight on Kushner's appointment as a Senior Advisor and his ensuing controversies with his father-in-law Trump
A new viral video has turned the heat on President Donald Trump and his appointment of son-in-law Jared Kushner as a Senior Advisor. Kushner is married to Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, who also serves as a Senior Advisor to the White House.
The video was released by MeidasTouch, an American political action committee formed in March 2020. MeidasTouch was formed with the purpose to stop the re-election of Trump in the 2020 presidential election. Since its formation, the committee has released multiple videos criticizing the Trump administration. On April 22, 2020, the committee released its first video, titled 'Are You Better Off?', which criticized Trump's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in the United States. One of the group's latest videos criticized Ivanka Trump as well.
The latest video, titled 'He Went to Jared', put the spotlight on Kushner's appointment as the White House Senior Advisor and the ensuing controversies. The video features clips of Kushner along with voiceovers of news clips panning Kushner's Middle East peace plan proposal, which was dubbed "dead on arrival". Other news snippets spoke about Kushner reportedly being denied security clearance in 2018 over concerns of foreign influence and private business interests.
There were also reports of Kushner's company failing to seek financing from the government of Qatar, following which Kushner and the White House supported a blockade of Qatar organized by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. In 2018, reports emerged that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, bragged to the UAE Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed and others that Kushner was "in his pocket" after they reportedly discussed classified information obtained from the president's daily briefing, according to The Intercept.
The video then goes on to criticize the White House's handling of the coronavirus pandemic which has claimed more than 128,000 lives in the United States at the time of writing. More than 2.6 million cases of Covid-19 infections have been confirmed in the country. According to The Washington Post, Kushner created his own coronavirus team to work alongside the official coronavirus task force. The team reportedly consists of Kushner's government allies and individuals from private industries who were focused on setting up drive-through testing sites and delivery of health care supplies.
However, Kushner’s team reportedly sowed confusion within the Trump administration — with some calling it a "shadow task force" that makes requests outside of the regular coronavirus response efforts. Many took to social media in response to the video to criticize both Kushner and Trump. One user tweeted, "When America needed leadership most, he went to Jared. We paid the price. #HeWentToJared."
Another wrote, "The richest country on earth not only failed to flatten the curve but is the ONLY NATION setting RECORD HIGHS for new CASES & DEATHS?? Because @realDonaldTrump ignored experts & put his son [in-law] in charge. #HeWentToJared #TrumpKillsUs." A user shared, "Jared Kushner is the most dangerous wax figure out there. Another solid video #HeWentToJared," while another shared, "#HeWentToJared .. and Jared helped him promote the KKK, White Supremacist ideology & American Terrorist Militias. Now the right-wing lunatics are standing on the steps of the courthouses with the cops."
A user wrote, "Truth stings. Pissed away a chance at real experts aiding gov't instead #hewenttojared AND also installed #NepotismBarbie useless and sad as hell. If I hear her say at a podium 'Myyyy faaather...' one more time I will scream."
