'DMZ' was a riveting and layered watch that showed a dystopic America torn apart by a second Civil War between the United States and the secessionist Free States. Kicking off 8 years after the war, the HBO MAX miniseries is set in Manhattan, which is a demilitarized region that upholds the ceasefire treaty between the two parties.

Starring Rosario Dawson, Benjamin Bratt, Freddy Miyares, and Hoon Lee in key roles, 'DMZ' focuses on the power struggles in the region and touches on geopolitics while being a story about a mother's (Dawson) search for her long-lost son (Miyares) and her attempts to reconnect with him. Based loosely on the Vertigo comic book of the same name, 'DMZ' ended with Alma becoming the governor of Manhattan and Skel leaving with Tenny in search of a better future after being urged and supported by Alma. However, the series didn't start with Skel on Alma's side. In fact, he doesn't even approve of her resurfacing in his life, claiming that she always held him back and rebuffs her when she tries to forge a bond with him. He's shown to be Parco's feared right-hand man and even seems to be in cahoots with him for most parts. So, how did Skel end up siding with Alma? Keep on reading to find out!

When will 'The Batman' release on HBO Max? Robert Pattinson-starrer might see delay

Episode 3 of 'DMZ,' titled 'The Good Name,' shows Alma and Skel having a heartfelt conversation and ended with Wilson getting murdered. It's only after this that Skel begins to realize that he has essentially been brainwashed into believing that he's free and in control of his life while he's just been a killing machine who acts as per Parco's will. He also realizes that Parco only cares about himself.

Skel finds out that Parco has planned to bring an end to the ceasefire treaty by setting off a bomb with the help of a young boy named Odi. Skel sees himself in Odi and this finally breaks the illusion that he has been living in so far. He sides with Alma and brings an end to Parco and his twisted scheming. He also takes his mother's word for once and leaves the DMZ with Tenny with the hopes of building a better life.

'DMZ' is available for streaming on HBO Max.
