LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: During a hearing held in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 14, Deputy District Attorney Paul Thompson informed Superior Court Judge Lisa B Lench that they will not pursue a retrial against Harvey Weinstein for the alleged rape and sexual assault of two women. According to the reports, the prosecutors made this decision known to the judge.

Following his conviction in Los Angeles, Weinstein was ordered by the court to be transferred back to New York, where he had already been found guilty in a related case. The charges that a jury had been unable to reach a verdict on in December were dismissed. Weinstein received an additional 16 years of prison time for his most recent conviction in Los Angeles last month.

'I have not achieved the justice that I had hoped to obtain'

In December, a Los Angeles jury convicted Weinstein, 70, of the rape and sexual assault of an Italian model and actor and he was sentenced to 16 years in prison. That’s in addition to the 23-year sentence he is already serving in New York. Weinstein's attorney Jacqueline Sparagna said he maintains his innocence of the charges.

Jurors could not reach unanimous verdicts on a rape count and a sexual assault count involving Jennifer Siebel Newsom — a documentary filmmaker and the wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom — and a sexual battery count involving model Lauren Young.

“For 10 years I have done everything possible to seek justice for what the defendant did to me,” a disappointed Young said as per AP. “I have not achieved the justice that I had hoped to obtain", she added. The report said 10 of the 12 Jurors agreed to convict Weinstein of the sexual battery charge involving Young.

Thompson reasoned that the retrial would have only got one additional sentence to the Wenistein if convicted and it was not worth another trial as the witness in Young's trial was hesitant.

'He's already going to die in prison'

Meanwhile, social media users have treated to the news som saying he's still going to spend life in jail, "He's already going to die in prison," one Twitter user wrote. One more wrote similarly, "Basically saying, look he was found guilty so there is no need to give more time to a person who already is Going time die in prison. If they want money then that’s a different story". One pointed out, "The biggest crime is how Hollywood looked the other way until he was brought to justice." While another remarked, "Bet that this dirt all gets out on some type of medical release. Unless he gets Epsteined, but maybe that is getting out as well. He is after all a friend of the Clintons."
