NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Some bankers are appalled by the hypocrisy of the rainbow-colored pamphlets that have recently emerged over workspaces at Goldman Sachs, encouraging employees to "bring your authentic self" and instructing staff on how to use gender pronouns properly. In addition to "she/her/hers/herself," "he/him/his/himself," and the gender-neutral "they/them/their/themself," the booklet suggests "ze/zir (zem) / zirs (zes) / zirself (zemself) as an extra set of gender-neutral pronouns.

Nevertheless, some insiders find it difficult to stomach the American global banking giant's rhetoric in support of "woke" ideas given that its offices at 200 West Street have long been managed by staid, testosterone-fueled, steak-eating males, reported New York Post.

What is the pamphlet about?

The pamphlet, which was initially published in 2019, established stringent norms for the workplace, inside as well as outside. As per National Review, the leaflet was drafted by the investment bank's internal LGBT group and urges employees to adopt newly invented gender-neutral pronouns such as "Ze" and "Zir." "Proactively share your pronouns to foster a sense of respect and awareness (e.g., "Hi, I’m Karen! My pronouns are she/hers. Welcome to the team!")," the pamphlet suggested. "Replace gendered language with gender-inclusive language wherever possible in everyday conversation (e.g., "Hi All," v. "Hi guys.").

The leaflet also mentions "practice makes perfect," and advises employees to "practice using gender-neutral pronouns on your own time. Practice using gender-neutral pronouns on your own time. Feeling comfortable with these terms does not happen immediately and can require concerted effort."

There is no 'authentic self' at Goldman Sachs

However, anonymous insiders said that the bank's greater message is to keep heads down and put in more effort, especially for young staff. "There is no 'authentic self' at Goldman Sachs. It’s your Goldman self," one employee stated. "You will be forever judged by what you wear, how you act, how you present yourself and how you play the Goldman game," as per NYPost. The claims, as per a Goldman representative, are a logical error and the recommendations are four years old. "Goldman Sachs has a long and strong record of promoting and advancing women at all levels of the bank," the rep stated.

'Goldman has a lot of other problems to worry about besides pronouns'

Global banking giant Goldman Sachs' new message of inclusiveness and support appears more fake given the mega-bank's attempts to bury allegations of sexism within the firm made by thousands of women, employees complain. "I think Goldman has a lot of other problems to worry about besides pronouns," An unidentified source told NY Post. "Perhaps start by getting rid of … those who harass women and then maybe the women here will take their diversity and inclusivity issues seriously."

Goldman fighting sex harass suit

In the US Southern District of New York, Goldman will go on trial on June 5 for long-standing discrimination, including bias against women over promotions and wages, according to 1,400 plaintiffs.

'Make them like Bud. Go woke go broke'

It appears that the new objective of Goldman Sachs has angered the internet. A user Tweeted, "Make them like Bud. Go woke go broke." Another user remarked, "They are treading on thin ice." One person mentioned, "Get away from Goldman Sachs.. Now!" Another person asserted that the novel concept is propaganda that has been created. "Someone is making all these companies do this. It’s propaganda, absolutely 100%" "That’s a high pedestal to fall from," remarked another. One user simply wrote, "No one’s gonna do it." One person shared his opinion and wrote, "Any business that believes in alternative realities, shouldn't be handling money." Another quipped, "I’m sure I’d be fired for responding with “Fluck Zu/Zem”." "Ironic that one of the most unethical financial institutions in the world is ‘concerned’ about pronouns……….," remarked one individual.
