LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a stunning turn of events, filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran have been tapped to lead DC’s film, TV and animation efforts as co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, a newly formed division at Warner Bros after David Michael Zaslav was appointed as the CEO and President of Warner Bros. Discovery. Soon after, Gunn refuted the news that Henry Cavill had been sacked from his role as 'Superman'. In December 2022, Cavill confirmed the "sad news" that he had been dropped, months after announcing his return to the role.

Fans were furious after the news broke that Cavill would not reprise his role as 'Superman' and hence Gunn was in hot water for taking a sudden and direct decision. Later, people started cancelling Gunn and went on the internet to trend #BringBackZackSnyder and #FireJamesGunn.

'Huge mistake': Fans slam DC Studios head James Gunn for not bringing Henry Cavill back as 'Superman'

After almost a month of being roasted on Twitter, Gunn was back to trending for uploading a picture on February 7. The picture was an illustration of the man of steel by Steve Beach, a well-known comic artist and illustrator. The upload brought back some sour memories for fans that led to them trending #HenryCavillSuperman on Twitter.

'Moving on is the best solution'

The post stirred up some mixed feelings among fans, who demanded that Cavill be back as 'Superman'. "We want Henry," tweeted a person, while another tweeted, "No we don't." Another chipped in, "If you really want him, I have bad news to you..." Another fan had a different request as they tweeted, "Pls keep John Williams’ theme in some form."

One fan requested, "The only Superman movie i would be excited for is the one starring him #HenryCavillSuperman." Another tweeted, "Still our Superman. Forever our Superman #HenryCavillSuperman." 'Here are just a few of our plans. Up, up, and away!'

Despite all the furore, fans did not seem to get the response from Gunn that they expected, as he uploaded a video on Twitter with a caption, "Here are just a few of our plans. Up, up, and away! #DCStudios #DCU@DCComics", where he extensively spoke about the plans he and Safran have for the future of DC. The five-minute video was a very thorough explaination of what the two were planning to introduce in the coming eight to 10 years and the new characters going to be introduced. Even if Cavill does not return, hardcore fans can look forward to a number of new things in the DC Universe.
