LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: When Dexter Fletcher’s ‘Ghosted’ was first announced on Apple TV+, the excitement level among viewers and fans was at an all-time high. Chris Evans and Ana de Armas have perfected their chemistry on-stage, and in interviews off-stage too, and that reflects heavily in ‘Ghosted.’ The reality of it all boils down to the cast, cameos, and tricks used by ‘Ghosted’ to lure viewers into this two-hour film, because, without that, it’s just another spy thriller cum romantic comedy.

An interesting mix of genres
If a longer screen time in Hollywood that goes beyond the standard 90 minutes irks you, then you’re going to have to be prepared for ‘Ghosted’ because the runtime for this movie is close to two hours. There are a plethora of genres in this movie, ranging from action to thriller to comedy to, of course, some good romance, so it would make sense to have a longer run time, but ultimately, did it work in the favor of the movie?
Your opinion might vary based on the genre you like. For starters, the first 20 minutes of ‘Ghosted’ focus on the cutesy romance between Cole (Chris Evans) and Sadie (Ana de Armas). They have an unusual meet cute, that almost pays homage to the enemies-to-lovers trope, which receives several call-backs in the rest of the movie. So if you are a fan of romantic comedies and love a good meet-cute, then the first twenty minutes of the movie are ideal for you.
That leaves hundred minutes of ‘Ghosted’ and it was packed with action, comedy, more romance, cameos, and did we mention…action? Despite all this, after the 90-minute mark, the movie felt like it was getting dragged on with no end in sight. The action sequences in ‘Ghosted’ were well choreographed, albeit, it felt a little repetitive after some time. There are only so many ways one can kick, punch, shoot, and kill!
The highlight of ‘Ghosted’
‘Ghosted’ has its fair share of highs and lows, there was no doubt that Chris Evans and Ana de Armas stole the show. Fans are accustomed to seeing Chris Evans as the stoic Captain America or the baddie Ransom Drysdale from ‘Knives Out', so his character Cole in ‘Ghosted’ was a welcome change. He was needy, loveable, goofy, and everything in between. Men, women, and others are going to swoon over this character for days to come.
Ana de Armas delivered a stellar performance as Sadie, a CIA agent whose character arc goes through some serious highs and lows in ‘Ghosted’ but if there’s any actress who could have handled that, it has to be her! Of course, the chemistry between Cole and Sadie was electrifying, with crazy sexual tension, crazy enough that the viewers might just miss the ongoing plot that revolved around a biochemical weapon posing as a threat to the world. As much as Evans and de Armas shined through, the cameos stole the show and presented themselves as the highlight of ‘Ghosted.’
You can now stream ‘Ghosted’ exclusively on Apple TV+ from April 21, 2023.
