Georgia girl, 15, put on ventilator after 2 pit bulls rip off her face, hair and vocal cord in vicious attack
A 15-year-old Georgia girl was left fighting for her life on Monday, August 3, three days after being attacked by two pit bulls. The teenager, Joslyn Stinchcomb, was mauled by the dogs while she had been taking a walk in her neighborhood resulting in her being in the intensive care unit at an Atlanta hospital. Joslyn had been out for a stroll in the Winder neighborhood when the dogs started chasing her, Classic City News reports. As per a Barrow County Sheriff's report, a deputy who had responded to the scene found Joslyn face down against a curb.
One of the dogs had been biting her neck and the other one was biting her head. As the deputy got out of his vehicle, one of pit bulls began to approach him prompting the deputy to shoot. He injured the pit bull and scared off the other. It is reported that the dogs were later found at their owner's house and were euthanized. The owner, Alexandria Torregrossa, 29, was arrested for reckless conduct once she returned home. Joslyn's aunt, Charity Stinchcomb Montgomery, has been a spokesperson for the victim and her family. She revealed that post the attack, Joslyn had been flown to the Grady Memorial Hospital via helicopter. The child was in critical condition and had to be put on a ventilator as her trachea was badly damaged. She had also lost an ear which the doctors were able to reattach though it is unclear if she will be able to use it again.
Montgomery said, "They don’t know if she will be able to hear out of that ear." She also shared that Joslyn had lost a lot of her hair due to the vicious attack with a chance that it may never grow back. The aunt added how there had been so much nerve damage that it "may affect her smile, her blinking, and other facial expressions. There is still so much that we don’t know about her injuries. but we know that God knows and that can heal her". The teenager is due to undergo another surgery on Tuesday to try and repair nerves on the left side of her face, her vocal cords, and airway. We had earlier reported another case of a terrible pit bull attack which caused the death of its owner. The dog had mauled its owner to death while she was taking the pet for a walk. The dog then proceeded to run in front of a car and was killed, according to authorities. A passerby, Jocelyn Parker, said: "What transpired in that 10 or 15 minutes, we don't know. Only her and the dog will know. We believed that the dog had attacked her based on the type of her injuries," CBC reports.
The animal was found dead around an hour-and-a-half later after it was struck by a vehicle. A neighbor of the victim revealed that the woman had adopted two pit bulls out of which one was aggressive, and the other was sweet-natured and calm. The neighbor who did not wish to reveal her identity spoke to The Chronicle Herald and said, "When I found out it was that dog, I was shocked, I couldn't believe it. Honestly, the other dog was always a constant worry for myself when I'd leave the house to go to work."
