Pit bull brutally mauls owner to death on morning walk, dies after being hit by car while running away
A dog mauled its owner to death while she was taking the pet for a walk. The dog then proceeded to run in front of a car and was killed, according to authorities. The woman, who has not yet been identified, was savagely mauled to death by a pit-bull type dog while she was walking the animal in Middle Musquodoboit in Canada's Nova Scotia province on Tuesday, June 9.
Witness, 15-year-old jogger, Keianna Borden found the victim's mangled body and called a passerby, Jocelyn Parker, for help. Borden revealed, "The dog comes at me and I'm telling it to back down, because I'm not gonna hurt him." Borden added, "Then I see the woman in the ditch, so at this point, I’m trying to stay calm for the dog so the dog doesn’t attack me."
Parker spoke with CBC and described the animal as a "large, muscular dog". "We both just kind of looked at (the victim) the side of the road, and her injuries were rather extensive and it was very apparent she had passed away," Parker shared. According to Parker, the dog was behaving "skittishly" and then ran away on a dirt road.
According to CBC, Parker said, "What transpired in that 10 or 15 minutes, we don't know. Only her and the dog will know. We believed that the dog had attacked her based on the type of her injuries." Parker added, "A lot of people are, like, 2020 can just leave right now, on a lighter note. But I just feel really bad that, yeah, at an already really difficult time, somebody's family is going to be getting more horrible news today, unfortunately. I feel really bad for her."
The animal was found dead around an hour-and-a-half later after it was struck by a vehicle. A neighbor of the victim revealed that the woman had adopted two pit bulls out of which one was aggressive, and the other was sweet-natured and calm. The neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous, told The Chronicle Herald, "When I found out it was that dog, I was shocked, I couldn't believe it. Honestly, the other dog was always a constant worry for myself when I'd leave the house to go to work."
"We have a small farm so we were always worried about the dog getting out and attacking the animals or attacking my wife when she was out working," the neighbor said. "They meant so much to her. I think she really tried to help the problem dog become a better dog."
According to RCMP spokeswoman Cpl Lisa Croteau said that from the scene of the attack, the police had determined that the pet dog had attacked the victim while she was walking it. She said that the medical examiner is determining the cause of death. It is not known what triggered the dog and why it decided to attack the victim.
Area councilor Steve Streatch said, "To hear something like this, this morning was just heart-wrenching, and our thoughts go out to the victim's family and they are in our hearts today."
