'There's a dead baby!' Career criminal Gary Robinson causes crash killing 9, including family of 7
Police in Las Vegas has identified career criminal Gary Robinson as the reason behind a horrific multiple car pile-up in the city on January 29, 2022. According to reports, Robinson sped through a red light at 100mph, before smashing into several cars that resulted in nine deaths, including that of Robinson and his passenger. Police have also released dozens of 911 calls made after the crash, indicating the death and destruction he left behind.
The tragedy comes at a time when vehicles are increasingly becoming the weapon of choice for many crimes. In June, Annie Williams of Texas drove her car into a liquor store while attempting to run over her partner. Then in November, the small town of Waukesha, Wisconsin was put on the national map after Darrell Brooks drove a car through a Christmas parade, killing five and injuring over 40.

Like Brooks, it appears Robinson is a career criminal with a lengthy rap sheet. It's not clear what prompted him to jump the light, with police still investigating the incident, but we do know he left behind a deadly and gruesome scene.
Who is Gary Robinson?
The 59-year-old North Las Vegas resident reportedly had a huge rap sheet dating back to 1998. In fact, just nine days before he died in the crash, Robinson was fined $150 after pleading guilty to speeding on January 20. Before that, he was cited for speeding in August 2021. "I was informed he does have multiple speeding citations and other traffic offenses on his record," noted North Las Vegas police spokesman Alexander Cuevas.
He was cited three more times between November 2020 and February 2021, and once by Henderson Police in 2017 as well. However, those are not the only citations in his rap sheet. In October 1998, he was first arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and in January 1999 for cocaine possession. In 2004, he was busted for selling cocaine to an undercover detective and pleaded guilty. However, he spent 30 days in jail after violating the terms of his probation.
In November 2008, Robinson also got into a fight with bailiffs after a judge ordered him to spend three days in jail. He reportedly tried to flee the courtroom, resulting in a fight before he was subdued with a taser. In all, he has about 10 citations and arrests to his name over the past three decades. Beyond that, little is known about him. When he caused the crash on January 29, Robinson was accompanied by Tanaga Ravel Miller. It's not clear what the relationship between the two was.
Robinson was driving a Dodge Challenger when he crashed into several other vehicles, killing himself, Miller, and a family of seven. Police have also released some 911 calls following the crash, where callers can be heard saying things like "It’s a lot of people dead" and "Oh my God, is that a baby?" According to court documents, Robinson was scheduled to be in municipal court on February 7 for sentencing over a December 2021 speeding violation.
