Franklin Mills or Philadelphia Mills? Shooting sparks debate over place name as gunman KILLS man in food court
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: A shooting incident took place inside the Philadelphia Mall's food court on Monday evening, March 29, at around 5.05 pm. The police have reported that a 21-year-old man was shot multiple times and killed inside the mall in Northeast Philadelphia.
The sudden shooting took place inside the food court at the mall's orange entrance. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No details of the victim have been disclosed yet. The mall is currently on lockdown as the police continue to investigate the incident further. While everybody is still shocked and enraged over the incident, Internet users however, seem to be focused on something else- the name of the mall.
Most news websites and television channels that reported the incident mentioned that the shooting took place inside a mall named Philadelphia Mills. This sparked a debate on the Internet over the name of the mall. The mall was earlier called Franklin Mills, which continues to be popular among the residents despite being changed to Philadelphia Mills a few years ago.
The Philadelphia residents took it upon themselves to correct everybody who was referring to the mall as Philadelphia Mills. A user tweeted, "ITS CALLED FRANKLIN MILLS!!! " in response to a news story that mentioned that the shooting took place in Philadelphia Mills. Another user wrote, "People who call it Philadelphia Mills instead of Franklin Mills are def not from Philly, lmao."

"Imagine my surprise to see Franklin Mills is trending. Someone's allegedly dead by gunshots and the name of the mall is trending despite it being changed to Philadelphia Mills years ago. The posts are all people calling it Franklin Mills anyway. That's Philly," summed up a user who seemed to be amused by the whole situation of people obsessing over the mall's name.

The police surveillance video clip revealed that the 21-year-old victim got into a physical altercation before he was shot. Philadelphia Police Chief Insp. Scott Small told CBS 3 Philly, "Someone punches the victim at least one time in his face. When he falls to the ground, other males punch and kick him. Thatβs when someone pulls a handgun and fires the five shots. " He also added that the victim got up and ran about 75 feet before he collapsed and died, following the shooting. The authorities revealed that the victim and his family are known by the police. Anyone who has any information has been requested to reach out to the police at 215-686-TIPS.
