NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Fox News Christmas tree at Fox Square in New York City was set on fire by an unidentified suspect on December 7. Social media footage shows the 50-foot high tree in flames as police gather around. Reportedly, a man has been taken into custody for starting the fire, but his name has not yet been revealed. Meanwhile, social media revealed in glee as it mocked Fox's situation, with many joking about the "war on Christmas" that the network frequently alleges Democrats are waging.

After the end of the Trump presidency, Fox has continued to take a hardline stance against Democrats and their legislation, including vaccinations. On November 29, Lara Logan compared Dr Anthony Fauci to Nazi scientist Josef Mengele. But ironically, while the network slams vaccine and testing on air, it secretly enforced a vaccine passport system for employees. In June, the internet was also delighted to learn the network had been fined $1 million by the New York City Human Rights Commission.

Needless to say, Fox has managed to remain a decisive entity even in the Post-Trump world. It's unclear if that anger is what caused the man to set the tree on fire, or if it was something else. But the net was quick to come up with a few theories of its own.

Christmas tree set on fire

Located on West 48th Street and 6th Avenue, the tree at Fox Square is reportedly filled with 10,000 glass ornaments, 100,000 lights and took over 21 hours to assemble. It was lit up by Fox Nation hosts Steve Doocy, Ainsley Earhardt, Brian Kilmead,  Abby Hornacek, and Lawrence Jones in early December as part of Fox News' 'All-American Christmas' special. Around midnight on December 7, a man reportedly set the tree on fire, causing chaos in the area.

The Sun reported that security saw the man climbing the tree before he set it on fire and ran away. NYPD told the publication, "Upon arrival, officers observed the male running from the location and he was taken into custody. The male suspect was removed to the Midtown North Precinct where he will be processed." The police said the blaze was under control at the time but did not comment on the state of the tree.

At the time of publication, the blaze appears to have been put out, but the tree is now dark. Here's a video posted on Twitter from before the fire was put out -

'Who brought the marshmallows?'

Social media saw the light side of the story, with many jokes quickly surfacing following the videos. One user mocked, "The Fox News Christmas Tree being on fire is pretty damn hilarious," to which another responded, "The Fox News Christmas tree is on fire. Who brought the marshmallows?" Another responded, "They've been desperate for a war on Christmas for so long..." Another person joked, "And people have the audacity to claim the war on Christmas is a myth."

"Maybe God is smiting the Fox news Christmas tree as it employs nothing but fake Christians," one person joked. Another took a shot at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, tweeting, "The Jewish Space Lasers have made the 1st strike in the War on Christmas." One user commented, "I'm finding this ironically funny."
