PULLMAN, WASHINGTON: Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, who has been charged with the brutal murders of four University of Idaho students was arrested on December 30 at his parents' home in eastern Pennsylvania, more than 2,500 miles away from the town of Moscow. Recently, while speaking to Fox News, former NYPD inspector Paul Mauro appreciated two Washington State University (WSU) police officers, Daniel Tiengo and Curtis Whitman, whose efforts ultimately led to the arrest of Kohberger. The former NYPD inspector called them the 'two unsung heroes'.

Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were stabbed to death on November 13 in their off-campus rental home on King Road in Moscow, Idaho. Kohberger, a PhD student in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at the neighboring Washington State University, is now facing four counts of first-degree murder and felony burglary charges. Kohberger is currently being held in Latah County Jail and is expected to be in court for a status hearing on January 12.

A white Hyundai Elantra has become the center of the Idaho murder investigation as authorities believe it contains key evidence. Discussing the probable cause affidavit filed last Thursday, Mauro told Fox News, "There were two unsung heroes in this affidavit, that aren't getting a lot of attention, but the first thing that I see in the affidavit, that really began to point at the suspect is the fact that two Washington State University(WSU) Campus Police took the initiative, after they received on November 25, the BOLO (Beyond the lookout) for the white Elantra."

Mauro explained how one of them did a database check while the other physically went around at the middle of the night looking for the white Elantra. "That was pretty fast and that was early indication of where they were going. From there they realised, okay we got something, they did the search warrants on the phone pings. They were able to track what he'd been doing. We see that he had been doing some version of stalking of either the girls or the house," Mauro added.

"They knew they were in the right place and the DNA became the real slam dunk," said Mauro.

According to Law & Crime, Kohberger was allegedly first linked to the murders on November 29, 2022, when WSU police officer Tiengo found a 2015 white Hyundai Elantra registered to Kohberger. Later that same day, another WSU police officer Whitman tracked down the same car in the parking lot of the suspect’s apartment complex. The officer ran the tags and they allegedly returned a match for Kohberger.
