Brave parents drown in ocean after trying to save 13-year-old son who was rescued by fishermen

PARAIBA, BRAZIL: An outing to the beach with a Brazilian family ended tragically when a pastor and his wife perished while trying to save their 13-year-old son from drowning. Felisberto Sampaio, 43, and his wife Inalda Sampaio, 42, saw their son Ian Sampaio go underwater at Camaçari Beach in Paraba last Tuesday.

The couple dove into the water to try to reach the boy, but they were unsuccessful. Then, a fisherman and another family member reportedly came to Ian's aid, according to Brazilian media. The terrified parents braved the waves to try to save their son, but they perished in the process. However, a few good Samaritans tried to help by pulling the parents who were drowning into the boat.

As per the New York Post, emergency services were called shortly after to the scene and hauled the Sampaios out of the water. But they couldn't be revived despite giving CPR and were pronounced dead on the scene. 

The orphaned teen is recovering at the hospital where he was transported and treated by the medics. The victims’ local priest Leonardo Meneses has since paid tribute to the courageous couple. “I know the circumstances are very painful and difficult for us to understand,” the bereaved religious figure said. “Only eternity will explain to us all the mysteries of life.”

Felisberto as per Daily Mail was the pastor for 12 years at the Assembly of God Church in Quixaba, Paraíba. The family lived in Campina Grande and were spending a couple of days in the Paraíba city of Lucena. 



 

"...A couple of God's servants, a true example of Christians and who was loved and cherished by all who lived together. MAY GOD OF INFINITE MERCY RECEIVE THEM IN THE KINGDOM OF HIS GLORY AND MAY THEY REST IN PEACE!!!." a man wrote on Facebook. "May God comfort the family, my condolences," another user reacted.
