MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TEXAS: The remains found earlier in February 2023 at the Sam Houston National Forest have been identified as those of a woman who has been missing for almost a year. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office declared on Monday, February 27, 2023, that the body has been identified as Felicia Johnson, 24. According to the sheriff's office, the remains were found to be human, and tests on their DNA and dental records proved they belonged to Johnson, a missing woman from Texas.

According to Montgomery County sheriff's deputies, on February 7, a landscaper employed by TxDOT discovered what might have been human skeletons in a woodland area close to Flamingo Lakes and Highway 149. Felicia) Johnson's father Kevin spoke to the outlet from his residence in San Diego and said, "The reason why her body has been found is so that she can return to get justice for herself. This is the first piece of the puzzle that is going to allow law enforcement to do their job and bring these guys to justice."

In 2022, it was reported that Johnson was the victim of a homicide. Chukwuebuka Nwobodo has been accused of murdering her. Investigators believed Johnson was killed, dismembered, and taken out of Nwobodo's apartment and the suspect performed several research to try to cover it up.

The Felicia Johnson case history

According to ABC13, on April 16, 2022, Johnson, then 24, was reported missing from the InterContinental Houston Medical Center hotel on the 6700 block of Main Street. The police in California were informed by Johnson's relatives that they had last spoken to her on April 15. Based on Johnson's last known whereabouts as of April 16, they approached a private investigator in Houston to search for her.

Johnson's phone was eventually discovered, covered in blood. According to Daily Mail, Johnson and Nwobodo were in contact via Snapchat, and her communications revealed that they had planned to meet for $500. According to reports, Nwobodo owned a shovel, a huge kitchen knife, latex gloves, and a revolver.

Records reveal that on the 16th and 17th, Nwobodo purchased several materials, including a flashlight, shirt, gloves, saws, garbage bags, and towels from Walmart and Home Depot. Sgt BA Roberts noted in the criminal records, "Nwobodo made multiple online searches after April 16, 2022, relative to cleaning DNA evidence, deleting digital information, missing person investigations, and how to get away with murder."

On May 13, HPD executed a search warrant and detained Nwobodo after they claimed to have discovered blood, firearms, invoices, and supplies in the suspect's vehicle. Johnson's blood and DNA were also discovered in his apartment.

According to the criminal documents, three more images of the deceased people were discovered on his cell phone, which was seized by police along with a picture of a woman who had been dismembered. Earlier, ABC13 contacted HPD to inquire about Nwobodo's release from HPD custody following this arrest.

Blood-stained cellphone

In April 2022, neighborhood activist Quanell X said that Johnson had traveled from California to Houston in search of work at the Cover Girls Night Club. According to Quanell, a private investigator employed by the family discovered the woman's blood-stained cell phone on the side of the road close to Bear Creek Park in West Houston.

Quanell asserted that he assumed Johnson was being detained against her consent. Back then, he stated, "We want whoever is holding her to know that we will not rest. We will not stop looking."

Johnson's father also made a statement when his daughter first went missing. The distraught father said at the time, "I’m trying to hold myself together and stand strong for the family and for you. And I won’t rest for a day in my life until I have you back."
