Sasha explained how he would write on paper that he wants to be a boy and then shred it into tiny pieces as he didn't want anybody to know it. But eventually, his parents found out and helped him with transitioning. A very emotional Jim explained how it's a parents' responsibility to be loving and supportive of their children no matter how difficult it is and even when they don't necessarily understand what their child wants. Jim also added that he was incredibly proud of Sasha.
The duo then got on stage and performed to 'Leaving On a Jet Plane'. Their amazing voices and harmony immediately had Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande turning their chairs. The two coaches praised the duo for their incredible performance. Finally, when ti was time for them to pick their coach, Jim and Sasha decided to go with Ariana. But they also wanted to show their love to Blake Shelton. So, Sasha presented Blake with a drawing of the coach with Jim and him. Blake was extremely touched by their sweet gesture and admitted that he felt like a fool for not turning his chair for them.
Fans loved everything about Jim & Sasha Allen's performance and their backstory. A fan tweeted, "Love that #TheVoice didn’t tell the coaches in advance that Sasha was transgender (just “a father-son duo”) and didn’t make a big deal of it after. Sasha is adorable and talented and he’ll be great on the show! #RepresentationMatters #TeamAriana." Another fan wrote, "So proud of sasha #thevoice." "Jim & Sasha Allen story got me emotional. So much unconditional love. They have a Simon and Garfunkel sound going on. Very sweet and soothing. Love how Sasha lost it at Ariana. #TheVoice #VoiceBlinds," expressed a fan.
