'The Voice' Season 21: Dad-son duo Jim and Sasha Allen's backstory has fans in tears
'Jim & Sasha Allen story got me emotional. So much unconditional love. They have a Simon and Garfunkel sound going on,' said a fan
Father-son duo Jim and Sasha Allen left 'The Voice' fans speechless not only with their amazing performance during the blind auditions but also the heartwarming backstory that tugged at everybody's heartstrings. At first sight, Jim and Sasha Allen may just seem like any other father-son duo musicians, but what sets them apart is the beautiful story of love and acceptance.
During their introduction segment on 'The Voice', the Connecticut residents revealed that based off on the striking resemblance that the father-son duo share anybody would easily guess that they are related. The duo then explained how music runs in Sasha's genes as Jim is a music teacher. Sasha shared how he is grateful to be the son of a music teacher and be exposed to various genres of music, thanks to his father. He then proceeded to explain how he is beyond grateful for his family as they have always been supportive and accepting of him. Sasha revealed that he was born in a female body but always knew that he was in the wrong boy and very badly wanted to be a boy.
Sasha explained how he would write on paper that he wants to be a boy and then shred it into tiny pieces as he didn't want anybody to know it. But eventually, his parents found out and helped him with transitioning. A very emotional Jim explained how it's a parents' responsibility to be loving and supportive of their children no matter how difficult it is and even when they don't necessarily understand what their child wants. Jim also added that he was incredibly proud of Sasha.
The duo then got on stage and performed to 'Leaving On a Jet Plane'. Their amazing voices and harmony immediately had Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande turning their chairs. The two coaches praised the duo for their incredible performance. Finally, when ti was time for them to pick their coach, Jim and Sasha decided to go with Ariana. But they also wanted to show their love to Blake Shelton. So, Sasha presented Blake with a drawing of the coach with Jim and him. Blake was extremely touched by their sweet gesture and admitted that he felt like a fool for not turning his chair for them.
Fans loved everything about Jim & Sasha Allen's performance and their backstory. A fan tweeted, "Love that #TheVoice didn’t tell the coaches in advance that Sasha was transgender (just “a father-son duo”) and didn’t make a big deal of it after. Sasha is adorable and talented and he’ll be great on the show! #RepresentationMatters #TeamAriana." Another fan wrote, "So proud of sasha #thevoice." "Jim & Sasha Allen story got me emotional.
