'Faraway' Review: Trip to island paradise is a feel-good, memorable affair
Mild Spoilers for Netflix's 'Faraway'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Faraway', a Netflix original movie, is here just in time for Women's Day. Written and directed by Vanessa Jopp and based on a screenplay by Jane Ainscough, 'Faraway' literally takes the audience to a faraway breathtaking island. The movie is refreshing, much like the nature-bound island that is shown in the movie.
The main cast of the heartfelt 'Faraway' includes Naomi Krauss as Zeynep Altin, Goran Bogdan as Josip Cega, Adnan Maral as Ilyas Altin, Bahar Balci as Fia Altin, Artjom Gilz as Conrad and Davor Tomic as Drazen Cega. The cast of 'Faraway' also has Vedat Erincin, Miladen Vasari, Paula Schramm and Christian Schneller in the movie. As the theme and tone of the movie are set pretty much in the trailer itself, let's get directly into the movie.

A worn-out Zeynep Altin
Zeynep Altin is a mother who lives with her parents and teenage daughter, and is pushed to her limits every day. Her snoring husband, who now runs the family restaurant, her ever-critical father and a daughter who has recently become more and more distant, means that Zeynep is the most overworked person in the household. When her husband doesn't show up at the funeral of her mother to help his new, young assistant, Zeynep Altin is moved onto the ledge. She is pushed over when her husband again goes after his new assistant for moral support rather than be with his wife, who has just buried her mother. This incident causes Zeynep to drive away to the house her mother bought secretly in Croatia, where she was born. Her mother has left Zeynep with the documents for the house and a personal diary. Little did she know, her sorrowful trip would lead to a life she never knew she was worth.
The power of nature
When she finds the house her mother left for her, Zeynep wants to commercialize the house. She learns her husband cheated on her and pushed her further down emotionally. However, her encounter with the former owner of the house and the current owner of the land, Josip, changes her life. Josip lives with nature and does not want to sell the place. The more Zeynep explores the place, along with the help of a diary that her mother has left for her, the more Zeynep opens up to life. She sees for the first time what she has been missing and this drastically brings the light to her. Zeynep finds love again and she mends her relationship with her daughter. And the emotional conversation she has with her daughter is one of the key moments of the film. When they say 'Nature Heals', in the case of Zeynep, it literally does. Visiting the place of her mother's house made Altin make peace with her mother, her family and most importantly, herself.
'Faraway' has all the complex emotions presented in a simple and realistic way. The several life philosophies that are spread throughout the movie are not forced but fitting and the landscape of the island gives us a huge hug. Though the movie is predictable and follows all the elements and has everything that a feel-good, heartfelt movie should have, this 'Faraway' leaves a strong impression, with the performances of the cast and the wonderful landscape of the movie, making it one of the perfect watch for relaxation or if you need some positive vibe for the day!
Overall 'Faraway' is a decent watch that will not disappoint and serves you exactly what it promises.
