LUSAIL, QATAR: US soccer journalist Grant Wahl died on December 10, while covering the FIFA World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and Netherlands at Lusail Stadium, Qatar. Following the death of the 48-year-old, there has been an outpouring of shock and grief across the world with one saying, “Terrible to hear. RIP @GrantWahl.”

On the other, many hinted towards an alleged foul play. An individual wrote, "I’m so in shock. Rest In Peace. If there was foul play, I hope you get justice." One more commented, "This is insane. Going to be an international incident." Another said, "Grant Wahl was everything a great journalist should strive to be, and an even better person. Sincerely hope the foul play is not involved stemming from his incredible reporting on Qatar."

The speculation continued with one saying, "A true historian of American football that always kept sh*t real when it came to the #USMNT I hope the #USA government takes a hard look at this Grant Wahl situation. If any foul play was involved, the perpetrators of this should see a similar fate." While some expressed their shock. A fan wrote, "Heartbroken at the @OnsOranje loss today but devastated hearing about the passing of @GrantWahl. Didn’t always agree with him but his enthusiasm and rigor in covering the game endeared him to so many. Such sad news."



 



 

'I believe he was killed'

His brother, Eric Wahl, too said, as previously reported, "My name is Eric Wahl. I live in Seattle, Washington. I am Grant Wahl’s brother. I’m gay. I’m the reason he wore the rainbow shirt to the World Cup. My brother was healthy. He told me he received death threats. I do not believe my brother just died. I believe he was killed. "
