Fans diss 'Grey's Anatomy' for such an 'underwhelming and disappointing' farewell episode of Meredith Grey
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Elle Pompeo's 'Grey's Anatomy' journey has finally reached the finish line after starting in the arena in 2005. She was the remaining one from "MAGIC" (a fan-made name for the OG interns which consisted of Meredith, Alex, George, Izzie, and Cristina). We have been on this roller coaster ride of Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey's journey for the last 19 years, and now that it was time to say goodbye, fans felt the series could have done the episode much better as they didn't get what one would anticipate when the main character leaving.
Regardless, the official synopsis of Episode 7 titled 'I'll Follow the Sun' of Season 19 reads, “On Meredith's last day at Grey Sloan, the doctors plan a goodbye surprise and Nick confronts her about the future of their relationship; the interns compete to scrub in on a groundbreaking procedure; Richard asks Teddy an important question.”

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 1 Episode 1: Where are the actors now?
'The end of my story is not any kind of ever after because I'm still alive'
Starting from seeing Meredith's house yet again turn into an intern house, to resemblances of the iconic moments of when Meredith begs Derek to "choose, pick, and love" her to when Cristina makes Meredith realize "she is the sun," this episode made the audience we are back to square one. Regardless, the last scene of the episode shows the plane traveling to Meredith's new life in Boston, she recites a passage from Tessa's book aloud to her kids.
"As long as the sun rises on your life," she reads, "there will be new dragons to slay. So, the end of my story is not any kind of ever after. Because I'm still alive. I'm still here. And the sun still rises on my life." However, as for Meredith's journey on 'Grey's Anatomy', the end has officially come.
'They did Meredith Grey so wrong'
In Episode 7, although the viewers witnessed many resemblances of the older episodes and the character growth of the titular character, it is safe to say they wanted more. A fan said, "I could not have written a more underwhelming goodbye to one of the most iconic tv characters of all time, disappointed is an understatement," while another adds, "that was the most underwhelming and disappointing goodbye tribute to THE meredith grey." A fan shared, "i’m not even being dramatic when i say this was easily the worst character exit on grey’s anatomy.. she’s the main character and THAT was her exit? i simply can’t keep defending these new seasons." A fan commented, "Why does this episode seem so boring for being Meredith’s last episode? It just seems not special at all and her losing her last patient it just doesn’t make sense. For someone who was the entire show for 18 seasons this seems like a slap in the face."
Lastly, a fan tweeted, "Me leaving the episode with no tears, no surprise guests, no flashbacks, no title card featuring Meredith, and no Chasing Cars. Just a basic goodbye like she’s been a guest character on the show Disappointed, to say the least. They did Meredith Grey so wrong," while another imagined how her exit should have been, "meredith grey’s sendoff should have been her walking through the grey sloan halls and remembering moments with all of her loved ones (derek cristina etc) and then they give her a big sendoff party with a real cake and fade out with an overlap of s1 her vs s19 her."

Safe to say, fans are not at all approving how Shonda Rhimes choose to bid goodbye to the character. However, this is not the end as 'Grey's Anatomy,' which follows the personal and professional lives of the doctors at Seattle's Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, will come back every Thursday at 9 pm ET on ABC.
