Grant Lysell-Alkire: Mom pays heartbreaking tribute to son, 21, killed after car crash in Snowpocalypse

LINDSBORG, KANSAS: A Kansas woman shares a heartbreaking tribute to her 21-year-old son who lost his life as a freak storm battered several states in the US. Despite having "broken fingers and damaged lungs," her younger son, 16, managed to flee the storm. A few days before Christmas, Ericka Lysell took to Facebook and shared a post, stating that she would never have imagined having to make a post like that. She revealed that her eldest son Grant Lysell-Alkire, 21, died in a car accident south of Salina, on Thursday, December 22.
"Never did I dream I would ever have to make a post like this," Ericka wrote on the post to Facebook, adding, "Our sweet Grant Lysell-Alkire died in a car crash last night, the roads were extremely icy." Grant Lysell died in the car accident, while his brother Sawyer Lysell-Alkire, 16, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the tragic incident, also got injured in the rollover collision due to icy roads as a monster storm batters several states in the US, as per Daily Mail.

“Sawyer so far ok some broken fingers and badly bruised lungs are monitoring,” Ericka wrote, adding, "We are sick and our hearts ache so much that none of our lives will ever be the same. Please pray for our family and especially for Sawyer."
Late on Thursday, Ericka updated her followers on the condition of her 16-year-old son in another post. "Sawyer's last chest x ray looked good, and he was doing well on room oxygen and with PT and OT. We are headed home. We feel the love from everyone," she said.
On the grieving mother's post, tributes from family and friends poured in, many of whom wished Sawyer a swift recovery. One person said, "Thank goodness for that! Please give Sawdog our love and a big hug. I wish I could be there for you, but please know I am praying so hard for all of you. Love you so much."
Another said, "You haven't been a moment from our thoughts today. I'm amazed you can reach out to assure us. You are so loved."
The fatal accident occurred on Interstate 135 near Old Highway 81 in southern Saline County at around 9.15 pm. A Mazda SUV overturned and landed on the roof of a ditch as it was heading south, according to Kansas Highway Patrol. Sadly, Grant died at the scene, while his 16-year-old brother, who was driving the vehicle, was hospitalized with minor injuries.
During the tragic incident, both occupants wore seat belts, according to the patrol's online crash log.
