One of the top honors of the 2020 Emmy Awards ceremony was presented to media mogul Tyler Perry. The Primetime Emmy Governors Award, as per the academy, is presented each year to "an individual, company, organization or project for outstanding achievement in the arts and sciences or management of television which is either of a cumulative nature or so extraordinary and universal in nature as to go beyond the scope of the Emmy Awards presented in the categories and areas of the competition.”

The award was well-deserved by the multi-talented personality, for he's known for his renowned work in direction and production besides acting in many successful films. Perry's win was definitely a highlight of the event, and so was his acceptance speech, which followed thereafter.

After thanking the Academy for honoring him with the award, Perry used the platform to share stories from his own experience as an example, as he touched upon the White privilege, discrimination against the Black community, and the need for diversity. He explained the importance of diversity as he narrated an incident from his childhood, where he saw his father stand at the door for a long time waiting to be paid by his White employer as the family faced financial constraints.

Perry concluded his speech saying, "I stand here tonight to say thank you for all the people who are celebrating and know the value of every story and every color." Soon, Internet users started sharing clips of Perry's speech to praise him for delivering a powerful speech and sharing words that could impact lives. One tweeted, "Loved, loved Tyler Perry’s Governor’s Award speech at #Emmys2020  Heartfelt, genuine, as the man himself. Congratulations on all your accomplishments, Mr. Perry!" While another wrote, "Tyler Perry is such a great story teller that his acceptance speech is better than anything else I’ve watched on tv this weekend #Emmys2020 #emmy." One fan noted, "@tylerperry's speech was beautiful and powerful. #Emmys2020."

Meanwhile, thanking Perry for being an inspiration, one emotional fan tweeted, "We celebrate you @tylerperry !! Your work to build doors for others to enter through is INCREDIBLE. You have helped people like me who stopped dreaming, believe that dreams are attainable - I dug up my gift, & you inspire others to do the same! Thank you! #Emmys2020."
