Elon Musk tweeted a conspiracy theory that claimed Paul Pelosi's assailant was a gay prostitute he met on a crazy night out before deleting it. Just hours after it was posted, the tweet that included a link to a report alleging that the House Speaker's husband left a San Francisco gay bar with David DePape before the attack is no longer visible on the Twitter page of Musk. Daily Mail reports that he is being accused of "caving into the leftist mob."

Musk made the remark in response to a tweet from Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state, in which she blamed Republican "mouthpieces" for propagating "hate and deranged conspiracy theories" for the attack on the 82-year-old. The 51-year-old billionaire replied, giving a link to a piece written by a website known as the Santa Monica Observer, "There's a tiny possibility there may be more to this story than meets the eye."

According to author Stan Greene, Paul Pelosi and DePape traveled to the house together after meeting earlier that evening at a gay bar. Police have not provided any information to support any of the claims made, and Greene has not provided any proof to support his statements. There is no evidence to suggest that Pelosi is gay or an alcoholic, despite the fact that he was previously given a five-day jail sentence in August for crashing his Porsche while intoxicated this year.

Just days after purchasing Twitter and promising to make it a model of free speech, Musk's decision to promote such an absurd theory prompted outrage on the social media platform. While the owner of Twitter wants the social media behemoth to become a "digital town square," he had written in a message to advertisers on Thursday that it "obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences," as per Daily Mail report. Twitter users trolled Musk for citing fake news. One user tweeted, "I just noticed - @elonmusk deleted his tweet about Paul Pelosi to Hillary. Never cave to the leftist mob. NEVER!" Another user wrote,"Welp, looks like you’re obviously not going to do anything about disinformation on here since you’re spreading it as well." One user said, "BREAKING: Elon Musk deleted his right-wing conspiracy-theory tweet on Paul Pelosi. Does he owe the Pelosi family an apology?" "Hmmm, isn't THAT interesting... Elon Musk, the master of free speech, has deleted his bullshit conspiracy tweet about Paul Pelosi. What happened to free speech?" wrote one user. Another user tweeted, "You deleted the tweet because you knew it was irresponsible. Making light of it? Cmon." Another user wrote, "Did he apologize for the tweet? No. Instead, the Twit simply scurried-away, deep into Twitterverse, to emerge again, when the need for another conspiracy arises." Another user said, "He literally tweeted a fraudulent article by an outlet notorious for publishing false claims. Elon deleted his tweet because he embarrassed himself. (Don’t strain too hard to understand, we know you’re not capable of feeling embarrassment)"

Amid all the trolls flooding Musk responded by posting another tweet that reads, "This is fake – I did *not* tweet out a link to The New York Times!"

Twitter users responded quickly. One user tweeted," Actually you did and I reported you to Twitter. You sent it in response to a Hillary Clinton tweet."

Elon Musk responded to the tweets commenting, "All news has bias, some more than others"

One user tweeted, "Cute that you went and deleted the tweet before tweeting this." A user shared a meme in response to Musk's new tweet. "@elonmusk
~ tweets conspiracy theories~deletes hate ridden tweets~lies about tweeting anything," wrote one another user.
