Tesla CEO Elon Musk celebrated Republican Mayra Flores's victory in a special election in South Texas on Tuesday, June 14. In one of his recent tweets, he said, “I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican.” Post this in a Twitter thread, he also hinted that he might vote for Ron DeSantis for the upcoming presidential run when asked who he was leaning towards, "DeSantis," he replied.

Musk also projected a massive red wave in mid-term elections, which is scheduled in November this year. His tweet came in response to the win of Flores, who flipped a US House seat in Texas' 34th Congressional District by defeating Democrat Dan Sanchez. With her win, she becomes the first Latina Republican from Texas in Congress. The victory has created a history as this is the first time in a decade that the district will send a Republican to Congress, according to The New York Times.

'I thought you were progressive, Elon'

Even though Musk chose to lean towards Ron DeSantis, many social media users slammed Elon for supporting DeSantis. A user wrote, "@elonmusk Ron Desantis is a hateful bigot. His ego, like yours, is causing more harm than good. You would be doing so much more if you would stop losing to your ego. Your followers are delirious. Your cars are s**t after 80,000 miles and you are lying about fsd."

Pointing out how homophobic Ron DeSantis is, one said, "Why would you even think of supporting Ron DeSantis who is one of the most anti LGBT rights Governors in the US I always thought you were progressive and very pro LGBT rights? Am I wrong?? Do you remember Ron Desantis’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill he proudly signed?

Asking Musk to do some research about DeSantis, a user advised, “Hey @elonmusk You seriously think Ron DeSantis is a moderate? Get a grip. If you support him, you are supporting an Orban lookalike, a nascent fascist. You reportedly read a lot. Try reading a little about what DeSantis is doing in Florida, and what he has done.”

Another said, “Elon Musk is only leaning toward Ron DeSantis because they experience triggering levels of white fragility together.” Criticizing both of them, one person wrote, “No surprise Elon Musk is supporting Ron DeSantis. They're both unhinged right wing extremists pretending to be centrists. They're both vindictively insecure and easily baited into petty feuds. And they each make themselves more unpopular every time they open their ignorant mouth.”

On the other hand, a few applauded the decision by saying, "This country needs more men like these two. Very logical thinkers and as wise as they come."

Ron DeSantis responds to Musk's support

"I'm focused on 2022," DeSantis, said at a press conference in Madeira Beach, Florida, according to Independent. "But with Elon Musk what I would say is: I welcome support from African Americans. What can I say?" Many were quick to bash DeSantis for his response to Musk's tweet, who is born in South Africa to a white South African father and a Canadian mother, and became a naturalized American citizen.
