Spoilers for 'El Deafo' Episode 3 'I Am El Deafo'

'El Deafo' is Apple TV+'s newest animation series that takes us on a creative and imaginative journey through the eyes of deaf Cece. Written by and based on her own experiences author Cece Bell imagines the characters in the story as anthropomorphic bunnies, as rabbits are known for their excellent hearing which makes it ironic that Cece's character can' hear.

The Apple TV+ synopsis says: 'El Deafo' is a charming and poignant three-part animated series for kids and families based on the #1 New York Times Bestselling and Newbery Honor Winning graphic memoir. It follows insightful young Cece (voiced by Lexi Finigan, who is also deaf) as she loses her hearing and finds her inner superhero. Going to school and making new friends can be tough. Having to do both while wearing a bulky hearing aid on your chest? That takes superpowers! With a little help from her superhero alter ego, El Deafo, Cece learns to embrace what makes her extraordinary.

Along the way, she had a few mean friends who she later let go of but also make a true friend in Martha (Quinn Copeland) who liked her as is. She also develops a crush on a boy named Mike (Boy-yo Gordon) but an incident caused her to lose Martha. What happens at the end of 'El Deafo?

In the last episode, we see Cece lose her 'superpower' when her Phonic ear's microphone gets broken by one of the teachers. She also gets glasses while she waits on a new mic to arrive, making Martha feel guiltier. But her alter-ego El Deafo helps her get through a hard time and she pushes herself to move on. A funny event leads her to share with Mike about the powers of the Phonic Ear and how she can hear everything around Mrs Sinklemann (Jane Lynch) when her teacher forgets to switch it off.

Later when the class wants to fool around while their teacher leaves the class, Mike tells them about her device and she helps them have fun warming them in time before Mrs Sinkleman arrives which has Mike say that she's like a superhero. The end also sees her reunite with Martha after she assures her she was not to blame for anything, with Cece also realizing that she is in fact special but that's not a bad thing as she's a hero in her own way and that everyone is unique!
