For Sunisa Lee, her 'DWTS' journey has not been all smooth sailing. While the Olympian is certainly a fan favorite, she's had her fair share of struggles on the show, as being a dancer is not quite the same as being an athlete. However, she has managed to come out of her shell and find her stride. The question now is, will this help her reach the finals?

Lee and pro Sasha Farber performed a redemption Foxtrot to 'Haven't Met You Yet' by Michael Bublé; then for their new dance, a Contemporary to 'Gravity' by Sara Bareilles.

'DWTS' Semifinals: Melora Hardin's unfair elimination has fans pissed at Cody Rigsby

For her first performance, Lee was assisted by judge Carrie Ann Inaba. Inaba wanted her to focus on her expressions because they lacked performance while her dances were technically sound. Inaba's advice seemed to have worked, as Lee first performance had the judges singing her praise, including Bruno Tonioli, who stated that 'fox or not, this girl can trot'! Lee managed to bag a ten from Inaba and a set of 9s, bumping her score to 37 out of 40.

For her second performance, Lee opened up, speaking about how being famous wasn't something she aimed for; it just happened overnight. But now, being in the spotlight, she feels as though 'DWTS' has helped her come into her own. Her second performance for the night earned her the second round of praise, as Inaba noted she felt like Lee's mother watching her come out of her shell. Lee scored a total of 38, bringing her grand total up to 75 out of 80.

While Lee was tied at third place on the leaderboard, it wasn't enough to save her, as she found herself in the bottom two. Standing alongside Amanda Kloots, the judges' decision to keep Kloots was unanimous, sending Lee home. Fans were livid, not as much over the judges' decision to save Kloots, but more so because Cody Rigsby had been voted safe.

"Still trying to process how Suni got sent home over Cody. Sasha needs win a season. Its giving Simone Biles all over again . #DWTS" tweeted a fan. "but tell me why suni is gone and a bicycle man is in her place ??? what ???? happened ??? #DWTS" added another. "The fact that Suni and Malora went home on dwts upsets me. It should have been Cody for both of them." agreed another. "Damn peloton cult they know damn well Cody should not be in the finale! Cheryl his partner was even shocked. Suni was shy but she at least could dance! Y'all picked a bike instructor over a beloved gold medalist #DWTS" tweeted a fan. "Well I guess I no longer have a reason to watch #DWTS this season. The judges and America got this one wrong. Suni should be in the Finals. Congrats to JoJo and Jenna on winning this season!!" tweeted a fan. "@sunisalee_ Suni , you did great on DWTS. Not to say the competition was better but you got out storied for the final spot. It's LA …so take that experience and grow into what ever comes next! Great job and couldn't be prouder of all you have done for the USA and Sunisa Lee!" added another.
