DWTS' Derek Hough provides health update on wife Hayley Erbert after her second skull surgery
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Derek Hough is sharing a health update on his wife Hayley Erbert after she underwent another skull surgery.
On December 21, the 'Dancing With The Stars' judge took to his Instagram page and spilled the beans on his wife's condition after her second surgery. He posted a snap of himself sitting next to his wife's hospital bed.
Hough started by writing, "With immense relief, gratitude and overwhelming joy I’d like to share that Hayley’s cranioplasty surgery has been successfully completed as planned."
He added, “My sincere appreciation goes to the exceptional medical team. Their expertise and steady hands were pivotal in this journey, ensuring a smooth and successful surgery. Especially Dr. Mai who not only performed the surgery but was also the one who saved her life 2 weeks ago."
The dancing pro went on to say, "We are profoundly touched by the outpouring of support and prayers from each of you. Your thoughts, prayers, and positive energy have been a source of strength and comfort for us during this challenging time. It’s truly heartwarming to know how much love and care surrounds us."
He continued, "This surgery marks a significant milestone in my wife’s recovery journey, and your support has played a crucial role in getting us here. We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community."
Hough concluded, "Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for standing with us. We love you With heartfelt thanks and endless gratitude."

Why did Derek Hough's wife Hayley Erbert undergo a second surgery?
Earlier this week, on Wednesday, December 20, Hough revealed that his wife Erbert will have to undergo another surgery “to replace a large portion of her skull that was removed during her craniectomy.”
Then, he said, "Please keep her in your prayers as I believe the collective energy helped her through these past few weeks. "
The six-time 'Dancing With The Stars' champion added, "We love you we thank you.”
When was Hayley Erbert hospitalized?
For those of you who are unaware, let us tell you, that Erbert was rushed to the hospital on December 6, 2023, after she “became disoriented" at the end of their show that took place in Washington, DC.
At that point, the 'So You Think You Can Dance' alum had to undergo an emergency brain surgery after doctors diagnosed her “with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.”
An intracranial hematoma occurs when blood accumulates either in the brain tissue or between the skull and the brain, causing pressure on the brain, according to Mayo Clinic.
This complication often occurs when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures, usually due to a head injury caused by a car crash or falling.

Hough and Erbert were involved in a scary car crash in December 2022. Then, Erbert shared the details of the accident on Instagram.
Erbert shared, "On December 12, Derek and I got into a pretty scary car accident in the mountains. Our accident involved a steep hill, icy roads, a tree, and worst of all, the fear that we would slide off the mountain. Given the circumstances, we have so much to be grateful for. First, that there were no other people involved. Second, the quick response from paramedics."
