Termed “Bagel Karen” by the Internet, 38-year-old Stephanie Denaro was seen calling a Black worker at a New York bakery a racial slur after he refused to serve her unless she wore a mask.

She called the Davidovich Bakery staffer, Victor Kamara, a “b****-a** N-word” in front of her biracial children. Now, her kids’ father has weighed in. And he is worried about the safety of his children.

Denaro, who has been criticized heavily online, has flatly denied using a racial slur, despite the fact that she was caught on tape using it. “I didn’t call him the N-word,” she said. “I called him a term to describe his behavior.” She added, “Listen, there are different ways to spell things. I called him a specific word.” In the video, she can be heard saying, after using the racial slur, “That’s what he is. B****-a** N-Word. I just said it. You heard it.”

Kamara, on the other hand, dismissed her denial, “Honestly, I really don’t know where that response comes from. I think that over a million people have seen the video and as it states in the video, she actually said those words… I feel like it’s an insult to everybody.”

Responding to the public backlash, Denaro also said, “I think that people’s rights are being violated being forced to wear mask... I’m a Christian and I don’t cover my face.” In a separate interview with the Daily News, she said, however, "I said, ‘You’re a b****-a** N-word,’ a term they use. All of my children have a Black father. That’s a term I’ve heard them use all my life."

Who is Durven Dawes?

Dawes is the father of Denaro’s four children and as per TMZ, he lost a custody battle with Denaro. Speaking to the gossip website, he said that he does not approve of Denaro’s behavior.

“She’s responsible for her actions and she’s damag[ing] our children by race-spitting poison out of her mouth,” he said. “I have a problem with everybody using that form of language… Even my own children.”

Dawes suggested that Denaro get “proper mental care and be monitored effectively” in order to be a better influence on their children. He believes his children are suffering “emotional harm because of Stephanie's disgusting demeanor”.

He said her brazen actions make him fear for the children's safety, and the bakery incident is just the tip of the iceberg. She has reportedly posted several disturbing videos and photos, including one photo of her two children with a caption that celebrated the transatlantic slave trade. But he said that it was not too late for Denaro to make things right. He explained how she can reassure him their kids are safe with her, and also make amends with Victor Kamara, the bakery employee.
