Why is there a delay in the production of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5?

The production of the fifth and final season of Netflix’s horror fiction ‘Stranger Things’ is reportedly delayed due to a conflict between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The news broke after the first week of the strike as the guild demanded viewership transparency from streamers, protection against mini-rooms, an increase in wage floor, and the use of artificial intelligence.

The creators of the show, Matt and Ross Duffer (Duffer bros), have already confirmed the fifth and last season of ‘Stranger Things’ in early 2022; it is most likely to be released in 2024. Unfortunately, due to the strike, the delay in production means a substantial gap between the seasons. While the first two seasons aired with a year gap, the third and fourth seasons took a long three-year gap, with the fourth season split into two parts. Nonetheless, all the gap and wait were worth it!

‘Writing does not stop when filming begins’

With regard to the delay in production of the final season, Duffer Brothers took it to Twitter and wrote, "Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then -- over and out."

In response to their tweet, many fans supported the strike by adding, "a hearty fuck you to anyone complaining about stranger things being delayed because of the writers strike! they are fighting for fair and liveable wages amidst AI and corporate greed threatening their livelihoods so i dont wanna hear it," while another wrote, "the fact that ppl's first reaction to the writer's strike was "oh nooo what abt stranger things 5 " is just wild. like srry but making sure the writers get paid fairly is more important than s5 being released." The fans are very supportive of the writer's strike to get paid fairly and are in favour of the strike. One more Twitter user wrote, "The WGA is on strike and as a union member I stand with them. It's Neil Druckmann who gave you 'The Last of Us' and the Duffer brothers who gave you 'Stranger Things' not the studios, not the actors. Studios are making billions. Pay the people who made you that way a living wage."

'Kids are already grown up!!'

While some fans are completely supporting the writer's strike, others are being pushy and insensitive toward them, taking it to social media. A Twitter fan wrote, "Filming for the final season of ‘Stranger Things’ has been delayed until a deal is reached with the writers strike. Here we go again!!! Kids are already grown up!!" while other added, "me when season 5 is in 2024." One more user wrote, pointing to the cast, "This is what the cast of Stranger Things will look like in Season 5 after the writer's strike."

Let's be positive here and patiently wait for the production to start. As we say, "good things come to those who wait."
