How Emhoff made history
Emhoff made history in January when he became the first Second Gentleman in the history of the United States. The term was used to denote the husband of the first female, first Black, and first Asian-American vice president. There has been no looking back for Emhoff since then. As the entertainment lawyer was seen supporting his wife during the 2020 presidential campaign, he was also seen at Harris' side at most times when she attended important public events. The couple has become known for their public displays of affection.
In an interview with CBS in January, Emhoff gushed about his wife as they recounted how they met and fell in love after being set up on a blind date. "And it was just, I mean, the thing about Doug is that he is exactly who he is. He's just fully authentic and clear about the things he cares about. And it's family, it's his work…," said Harris, at which point Emhoff interjected, saying: "You."
