Trump Jr backs Ted Cruz by blaming Texas 'Dem' governor, Internet corrects him, 'Guv Greg Abbott is Republican'

In yet another instance of the foot-in-the-mouth moment, Donald Trump Jr was the butt of jokes on Twitter for his knowledge of Texas. In what was ideally supposed to be a video extending support for Senator Ted Cruz who "fled" to Cancun, Trump Jr wanted to explain the difference between a senator and a governor. In doing so, he wanted to drive home the point that Cruz did not shed his responsibilities to the state at all.

But what he ended up doing is inviting social media users to mock not only him but also slam Cruz even harder. He went on to say that in times of crises like this one, the governor, who he said is a Democrat, should be held accountable for his rescue measures as it is not up to Cruz to bring relief to the state. It took no time for social media users to drag him, reminding him that the Governor of Texas is actually Republican and not a Democrat as Trump Jr claimed.

Posting a video on Twitter, Trump Jr wrote, "The hypocrisy of those trying to cancel Ted Cruz who have been totally silent on their Democrat Governor’s incompetence is telling. My thoughts on the Cancún Cruz fauxoutrage! #Cruz #CancunGate is fake."

In the video, he went on to divert the blame on the governor of the state and extending his support to Cruz. "They are trying to cancel him, he took a family vacation. Obviously, we understand... the optics of that right now isn't ideal, but in the grand scheme of things, he is a senator, he doesn't handle crises in the state, that's the governor's job," he said, adding, "He is a federal employee, they mostly vote on things. So I'm not going to jump on this bandwagon for trying to cancel the guy because he took his kids on a vacation. Maybe it is not the ideal time, quite certainly it is not, but give me a break."

In an earlier tweet, Trump Jr had said, "There’s also a difference between a Governor and a Senator in terms of job description and what they can do for localized disasters. Optics is one thing but let’s be real here."

In no time, social media users started pointing out to him that the governor of Texas Greg Abbott is actually a Republican. "Drugs are bad, mmmkay? The governor of Texas is a Republican and a Trump lover," a user pointed out to him. "I’m sorry but we all know the Governor of Texas is a Republican..." another user pointed out to him. "So. I'm not sure if it's the cocaine or crystal meth but the governor of Texas is a REPUBLICAN," said another user taking a jab at drugs. "A little to high on coke tonight Jr. When you come down, the Governor of Texas is a Republican," another user added.

Social media users did not mince their words. "You may be the dunciest dunce in Dunceland. The Governor of Texas is a Republican. The last three Governors of Texas have been Republicans, Baka..." a user directly replied to Trump Jr. "The governor of Texas is a republican, you useless fuckwit," another said.

In his attempts to defend Cruz, Trump Jr also tried to take a jab at President Joe Biden by tweeting, "Biden calls a lid at 8am on a Thursday while one of the largest states in the union could use some emergency management but let’s all talk about Ted Cruz. You people are full of crap."
