'Home Alone 2' row: Trump teases Trudeau as CBC cuts his cameo, Don Jr calls Canadian network's move pathetic
After Canadian network CBC TV cut Donald Trump's cameo in 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York' during its broadcast this Christmas, many took to Twitter to either criticize or laud the move. This came days after President Trump called the appearance "an honor".
To recall, after Kevin (Culkin) boards the wrong flight and ends up in Manhattan, he goes to the Plaza Hotel. There he meets Trump and asks him for directions in the lobby — Trump owned the Plaza Hotel at the time. Less than a year after filming, a bankruptcy plan was approved for the hotel.
When Comicbook.com reached out to CBC TV, the network replied, "As is often the case with features adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited to allow for commercial time within the format."
Now, President Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr, has responded via Twitter on the Canadian broadcaster's action. Trump Jr tweeted an article that criticized the move, calling it "Pathetic," and later retweeted White House aide Steven Cheung, who shared the scene, captioning it, "If anyone is looking for the Home Alone 2 cameo from @realDonaldTrump
that was edited out by @CBC, here it is in all its glory."
Trump tweeted, "I guess Justin T doesn’t much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade!" He later added, "The movie will never be the same! (just kidding)."
According to CNN, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office declined to comment as of Thursday on Trump's tweet suggesting that Trudeau had revenge-edited the US President out of the 1992 classic over trade agreements.
CBC has in turn clarified that the scene was part of an eight-minute cut from 'Home Alone 2' when the network acquired the rights for the movie in 2014 before Donald Trump had announced he would run for President.
