Trump calls 'Home Alone 2' appearance 'an honor' as Canadian network cuts his cameo during broadcast
The 'Home Alone' movies remain a consistent favorite on Christmas movie watchlists, especially the first two films starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern. In the second film, 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York', President Donald Trump had a small cameo.
To recall, after Kevin (Culkin) boards the wrong flight and ends up in Manhattan, he goes to the Plaza Hotel. There he meets Trump and asks him for directions in the lobby -- Trump owned the Plaza Hotel at the time. Less than a year after filming, a bankruptcy plan was approved for the hotel.
In a recent video conference call, Trump made to the US troops overseas, one sergeant asked the president whether the 'Home Alone' sequel is his favorite holiday movie. Trump replied, "Well, I'm in 'Home Alone 2'. A lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas. They say – especially young kids – they say, ‘I just saw you on the movie.’ They don’t see me on television as they do in the movie. But it’s been a good movie and I was a little bit younger, to put it mildly. And it was an honor to do it."
However, not many might agree with him on the last part. During its recent broadcast of the movie, CBC TV -- a Canadian network -- had prominently cut the scene featuring Trump, leading many to take to social media to remark upon this.
When Comicbook.com reached out to CBC TV, the network replied, "As is often the case with features adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited to allow for commercial time within the format."
Viewers' opinions over this remain conflicted. One user tweeted, "In a prime example of absurdity, CBC Cuts Donald Trump's Home Alone 2 Cameo From Broadcast. Don’t love Trump, but come on folks - Your hysteria over this man has risen to evangelical fervor. Guessing he’ll be scrubbed from history books too?" Another wrote, "CBC cut the trump scene from home alone 2 I f***ing love it."
