Who are the Illuminati? The new 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' trailer hints at epic crossover!

The Illuminati is a fictional secret society and group of superheroes that appear in the Marvel comics and secretly work behind the scenes to maintain order. The group consists of 6 members - Namor, the King of the Atlantis and the Seven Oceans, Tony Stark, Reed Richards who is the leader of Fantastic Four, Black Bolt who is King of Inhumans, Doctor Stephen Strange, and Professor Charles Xavier who is the leader of the X-Men.

After the events of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', Doctor Strange's action will have severe repercussions as seen in the new trailer. Getting arrested for tampering with time-space reality, he is presented before a mysterious court as the silhouette of the unknown judges is seen. That's when things get really exciting as we hear the voice of Professor Charles Xavier say, "We should tell him the truth." As the MCU begins a new phase, the presence of variants and crossovers is infinite in the exploration multiverse. The trailer doesn't confirm it but the 'Illuminati' are a very possible new addition and fans are absolutely freaking out!

Patrick Stewart's voiceover had fans squealing as they speculated whether or not they will get to see the enigmatic and elusive secret society. Some guessed if they'll see a variant of Black Panther as Black Bolt and also wondered if they would be called the Defenders. Add to those the rumors of new cast members and fans went into a tizzy, hoping for variant possibilities. This is what they had to say.

A fan said, "Is Marvel introducing some kind of "MCU Illuminati" team? originaly it had 6 members in the team - Ironman, Doctor Strange, Professor X, Namor, Mr Fantastic & Black Bolt. The 2nd seat looks like it could Black Panther or Black Bolt. #DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness," while another exclaimed, "THAT VOICE! I legit squeeed. So, the Illuminati is coming to the MCU? Or at least a version of it possibly? Sweet. #DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness."

A tweet read, "The trailer indicated that the variant of #BlackPanther as the member of the Illuminati will be in #DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness!"

A fan commented, "Okay #MarvelStudios @MarvelStudios DID I JUST HEAR PROF. X VOICE... And is that the Illuminati... Can't wait for May. #DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness #DoctorStrange," while another wondered, "I'm curious if they're going to refer to The Illuminati as The Defenders to avoid comparisons to the more bizarre wing of conspiracy theories. Since the Netflix team is dissolved they can use it again for a group of Multiverse variants. #DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness."

A fan also tweeted, "Wtf!!!!! 3 Doctor strange, 2 wanda's, maybe a tom cruise iron man, tobey maguire, Andrew Garfield, illuminati and America Chavez!! This movie is gonna be EPIC! #DoctorStrange #DoctorStrange2 #DoctorStrangeInTheMultiverseOfMadness."
