What does 'DNI' mean on TikTok?

The slang 'DNI' on TikTok stands for "Do Not Interact." DNI is a phrase that can be seen on both TikTok and Twitter, and the abbreviation is mostly used in video or photo descriptions, although it can also be found in comments.

For example, if a user on TikTok is sharing content that requires adult supervision or viewer discretion, the user can include the phrase "minors DNI" in the caption. It is done strictly to prevent people under the age of 18 from engaging with that particular content. This abbreviation does not have to be used in posts that are Not Safe for Work (NSFW). It could also be a post about sensitive issues like abuse or trauma, or some type of extreme violence.

Other ways to use DNI

Although the term is mainly used as a content warning, it is not only used by content creators in that capacity. The word can also be used in comment threads where random user interaction is not expected. If a person posts adult or triggering content that may not be appropriate for minors to engage in, that person can add the abbreviation in their profile bio to avoid youngsters' indulgence.

Users can also mention the acronym in their bio if they do not want a certain set of people with opposing ideas to interact with them. For example, if a Trump supporter does not want to engage in any conversation with a Democrat, they can add "Democrats DNI" in their bio so they don't run into someone later only to discover they have opposing political views.

However, it is not restricted to political preferences or general life views. Some people frequently use "DNI" in a non-serious, petty way. For example, if a person does not want to communicate with people who do not use good grammar, syntax, or punctuation, they can write a post requesting that a certain set of people refrain from interacting with them.
