With Russia preparing to storm Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, the bombing and shelling across major towns and cities in the Eastern European country have intensified. In one of the instances that are leading to civilian casualties, a massive 500kg Russian bomb fell on a residential building in Chernihiv, bearing witness to the horrors of the devastating war.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba posted the picture of a giant Russian bomb that landed in Chernihiv, less than 100 miles from Kyiv on Twitter. He wrote, "This horrific 500kg Russian bomb fell on a residential building in Chernihiv and didn’t explode. Many others did, killing innocent men, women, and children. Help us protect our people from Russian barbarians! Help us close the sky. Provide us with combat aircraft. Do something!"

Is Putin winning the war? Expert says YES despite 'hundreds' of Russian troops killed

The Ukrainian government has been repeatedly asking the West to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine to stop Russian airstrikes. But the Western leaders have ruled it out because of the fear that the conflict could escalate into a bigger war. During a trip to Estonia last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, "It’s very, very important to understand NATO is a defensive alliance. This is a time when miscalculation and misunderstanding is all too possible and it’s, therefore, crucial that we get that message over."

He continued, "When it comes to a no-fly zone in the skies above Ukraine we have to accept the reality that that involves shooting down Russian planes... That’s a very, very big step, it’s simply not on the agenda of any NATO country."

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin had cautioned that any country that imposes a no-fly zone over Ukraine will face dire consequences. Putin said, "Any movement in this direction will be considered by us as participation in an armed conflict by that country."

Although the world leaders have expressed their reluctance to join the fight against Russia, many social media users expressed their support of imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine. One user wrote, "Let's join together! Let's ask NATO, ask your governments to CLOSE THE SKY! Russians are bombing Ukrainian cities to the ground...innocent people, children are dying every minute." Another wrote, "This is the genocide of the Ukrainian people. Close the sky over #Ukraine! The blood of innocent people on your hands too, #Europe."

A third added, "I’m deeply frustrated with dormant @NATO and @POTUS. How come that one sick man can give orders to other governments and blackmail the most powerful nations and states? How many innocent civilians should die to stop it?" and using the hashtag #CloseTheSkyUkraine.

A fourth wrote, "What other kind of evidence do you need @NATO? People of Ukraine die every day due to your fear and incompetence. The biggest problem is that your organisation was created to protect innocent people and you do nothing to help them!"
