Earlier, the US had reportedly given the “green light” to Poland to help Ukraine as a NATO member. This was seen as a risky move as Russia's Defense Ministry warned other nations against helping Kyiv and its residents. According to latest updates on the situation, Poland has, for now, decided not to send its fighter jets to aid Ukraine against Russia. On Monday, March 7, Marcin Przydacz, a deputy foreign minister, said in an interview on Radio Zet: "We will not open our airports and Polish planes will not fight over Ukraine... Polish planes will not fight over Ukraine."

But, separately, the Polish government’s spokesman Piotr Mueller indicated that a final decision had not been made, according to an Associated Press report. He said that the decision on whether to send fighter jets presents risks and is a “very delicate matter’. Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said they were in discussions with Poland to reach an agreement that would allow the Ukrainian Air Force to fly Poland's 28 Russian-made MiG-29 warplanes in return for US-made F-16s to tackle Moscow.

Blinken had said, “That gets the green light. In fact, we're talking with our Polish friends right now about what we might be able to backfill their needs if in fact they choose to provide these fighter jets to the Ukrainians. What can we do? How can we help to make sure that they get something to backfill the planes that they're handing over to the Ukrainians?”

This statement came after Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov stated that any neighboring countries helping Ukraine or hosting its military aircraft would be considered as nations involved “in an armed conflict”. He stated: “We know for sure that Ukrainian combat aircraft have flown to Romania and other neighboring countries. The use of the airfield network of these countries for basing Ukrainian military aviation with the subsequent use of force against Russia's army can be regarded as the involvement of these states in an armed conflict.”

Konashenkov’s statement has also reportedly left the Polish government worried as an official said, “Poland is not in a state of war with Russia, but it is not an impartial country, because it supports Ukraine as the victim of aggression. It considers, however, that all military matters must be a decision of Nato as a whole.” Poland is a full member of NATO.

Meanwhile, it has been said that US army general Mark Milley went to a training center in Pabrade, Lithuania, as Putin troops continue to destroy Ukraine. It has been speculated that soon Russia would only attack via sky as its ground offensive seems to be making far slower progress than what was guessed earlier.

The Biden administration is now trying to figure out the military deal with Poland in exchange for the NATO member country's aid to Ukraine that might incur Russia's wrath. A White House spokesperson said: “There are a number of challenging practical questions, including how the planes could actually be transferred from Poland to Ukraine. We are also working on the capabilities we could provide to backfill Poland if it decided to transfer planes to Ukraine.”

The latest development has attracted a lot of attention online. One Twitter user asked, “Why US is not directly giving Ukraine? Just creating problems to others..” Another user tweeted: “US gives green light and Poland gets red light from Russia. Question is, is Poland stupid enough to get in to a war they cant win? Don’t expect America to come running. Article 5 will be fulfilled even if they sent 100 soldiers to evacuate Americans from Poland.” “Biden wants WW3, both Putin and Biden are morally corrupt,” the third user noted.

“good news ....but....is NATO prepared to defend Poland if attacked by Russia? or they will imposte financial sanctions.....” a person questioned. The second one said, “What airfields will these planes use? Russia is bombing all airports and fields. If they fly out of another country then WW3 here we go. China is the X factor here. If they are coordinating with Russia then them losing spectacularly looks a lot differently.”

A tweet read: “War can come to any home without asking.  Think about it.  You won't always feel safe lying on the couch, staring at the TV.  The United States, through the hands of Poland, can provoke a global war, after which there will be a Stone Age.” “Ukraine War shed light on the political nature of Westerns against Humanity; Creation of Crisis & Conflicts, Nation Destruction, Diseases Spreading, Food Poisoning, Causing Famines & Inflations, Resources Looting, Way Blocking, Market Burning, Corrupting & Demonising Societies,” another tweet added.
