Alex Murdaugh cries in front of son Buster during double-murder trial, Internet asks ‘was it effective?’
COLLETON COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA: Alex Murdaugh, a former attorney from a well-known politically-connected family who is accused of shooting his wife, Maggie, and 22-year-old son, Paul, at the family’s hunting estate on June 7, 2021, cried in the courtroom on Wednesday, January 25, during the opening statements of his murder trial. Alex got emotional when his lawyer Dick Harpootlian said the accused, whom he described as a loving father and husband, arrived home to “find his son [Paul] lying in his own blood with his brains lying at his feet – shot to hell.”
According to The News & Observer, the defense lawyer described a Snapchat video sent from Paul’s phone showing Paul and Alex laughing and “having a good time” just an hour before the murders. "To find Alex Murdaugh guilty of murdering his son, you’re gonna have to accept that within an hour of having an extraordinary bonding — you’ll see it in the Snapchat — that he executes him in a brutal fashion,” he explained. However, the internet was quick to react to Alex crying with one saying, "But he didn’t cry when the prosecution described the same." According to Metro, prosecutor Creighton Waters claimed during opening statements that Alex shot his son with a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with buckshot rounds before shooting his wife twice with an AR-15-style rifle. "It was a family weapon that killed Maggie Murdaugh," said the prosecutor.

'Was the crying effective?'
One of many continued to point out that he shed tears when his lawyer shared the details, "But not when the Prosecutor described same murders!" One wrote, "He trying hard as hell to cry #AlexMurdaugh." Another asked, "Was the crying effective? Like Oscar worthy?" While one more slammed by saying, "Disgusting human! It’s an honor to defend Alex Murdaugh? Really a man who ruined the lives of so many by STEALING their money?!? Dick says: ok when I say the work butchered, you cry, got it? Alex: got it, I’ll try (failed acting school 101 at the University of SC law) Disgusting."
