'I was in a very serious relationship': Diane Kruger reveals she 'tried very hard' to have baby with ex-BF Joshua Jackson
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Diane Kruger "tried very hard" to have children with her ex-boyfriend Joshua Jackson, according to a recent interview. Speaking to the 'Divorced Not Dead' podcast, the 'Troy' star, 46, revealed that after growing up believing she would never have children of her own, the actress had a change in her mid-30s that made her desire to have children. Even when her decade-long relationship with the 'Dawson's Creek' actor ended in 2016, she had plans to "do it on [her] own."
While talking to host Caroline Stanbury of the podcast 'Divorced Not Dead', the mother-of-one said, "You know, I don't know. Maybe it is what people say about women and that time clock, just all of a sudden kicks in. I mean, the truth is I would've had a kid with or without a man attached. I remember starting to feel like [it] in my mid-thirties. Like, 'What am I doing all this for? Why am I running so hard, trying to make money and trying to live this life? Was it all worth it?' I was in a very serious relationship at the time." She continued, "We tried very hard to have a child, which didn't work out. And then, I was single, and I thought, 'Oh, you know what? Maybe it's just easier to do it on your own anyways. You don't have to ask anyone for permission on schooling or where you're gonna live. Let's do it on your own,'" she added.

Mother of one
The 'Inglorious Basterds' actress was considering her options for starting a family on her own when she started "casually dating" her fiancé Norman Reedus, and she was shocked when she became pregnant with their daughter Nova, now four. She said: "When we realized we were gonna have a baby, and naturally, it just became this. I mean, Nova truly happened when I was least expecting it and most needed it in my life. She was the absolute best thing that's ever happened to me, to us, to my life." They first got to know each other while working together on the film Sky in 2015.
After having their first child together, Kruger and Reedus announced their engagement in 2021, three years later. Together with his ex-girlfriend Helena Christensen, Reedus is the father of a son named Mingus Lucien, who is now 23 years old.
'She’s changed my world'
In a May 2022 interview with People, Kruger also talked candidly about how much she has enjoyed being a mother. “I wanted to be a mom and I was sure I was going to like it, but just the magnitude of wanting to be there every second, not missing a thing,” she said, adding that it’s been “wonderful to rediscover firsts. So many things at my age, you’ve done a thousand times, but just seeing it through her eyes again. Whether it’s having ice cream for the first time or seeing snow for the first time there’s just something so refreshing and simple about that life as mother and daughter that I’ve just found magnificent.” Kruger concluded, “[Nova] was a surprise. I thought it wasn’t going to happen, and she came into my life when I was ready. I’m grateful that happened for me and our family. She’s changed my world and the way I look at everything.”
