MICHIGAN, DETROIT: Detroit police have announced a new cash reward for tips in the brutal murder of Devon Hoover, who was shot dead in his stately home. The 53-year-old renowned neurosurgeon was found wrapped in a plastic sheet and stuffed in a crawl space of an attic on April 23, when Detroit police conducted a wellness check at his home on the 100 block of West Boston in Detroit.

Authorities released a statement on Tuesday, May 09, announcing a $1,000 reward for tips in the slaying. "Detectives continue to investigate all leads in the homicide of Dr Devon Hoover," the Police Department said, according to Detroit News. It has been more than two weeks but police are yet to arrest a potential suspect. Why police released a person of interest in Hoover’s death?

At the time of the arrest, Detroit Police Chief James White stated that investigators were confident the person of interest “knows something about what occurred” “We’re confident that the person has information on what transpired,” Chief White said previously. “Right now, though, we are happy to have a person of interest who we could question. We are confident as a police agency that this person knows something about what occurred.” The department is actively investigating the homicide and believes that the suspect is a male who moved Hoover to the attic after killing him.

The officials also revealed that the person who murdered the doctor was not unknown to him, and the killer first shot him before moving the body to the attic. As MEAWW reported earlier, the medical examiner, who listed Hoover's cause and manner of death as a homicide, previously confirmed that he died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his head. In addition, Chief White stated that the doctor’s murder ‘was not a random act.’

Hoover’s tragic death has devastated his close family and friends. Following his death, a Facebook group titled 'Justice for Dr. Devon Hoover,' was set up by his loved ones, who paid him a moving tribute. Remembering the late doctor, one of his colleagues, Tracey Steeves shared an emotional post, reading “Add me to the group of the shocked and saddened over the senseless loss of this amazing human being and surgeon. His personality was that of caring, kindness, and understanding. Treated people like family. Never rushed, never arrogant. Always calm and pleasant despite the mountains of tasks before him as a physician and surgeon. He healed so many; giving many a second chance at regaining their quality of life and out of pain and suffering. May he rest in peace."
