Spoilers for 'Devils' Season 1 Episode 3 titled 'Searching For the Truth'

Early on in Episode 3 of 'Devils' titled 'Searching For the Truth', Massimo Ruggero (Alessandro Borghi) gets a clear warning. "If you try to retaliate against the bank, you will only end up hurting yourself."

Episode 3 follows a heartbroken Massimo as he tries to uncover the truth behind not only Ed Stuart's (Ben Miles) death but also his wife Carrie's (Sallie Harmsen) sudden overdose. Massimo is confident that Carrie could not have overdosed herself, despite being aware of the fact that she was an addict. And so he puts his all efforts into investigating what happened just before her death, or murder.

At the same time, it is with Sofia's (Laia Costa) help that he tries to determine if the bank is secretly handling big money for Gaddafi via Dominic Morgan (Patrick Dempsey). In order to make immediate damage control, Dominic holds a press conference immediately after news of the bank's association with Samir Al Maghrabi (Azad Boutella) is made public by Sofia. After all, funding a dictator who murders his own people doesn't put a shine on your reputation. This leads to Sofia's plan to fail and Dominic shining in the public eye.

What makes Massimo and Sofia a team are their personal vested interests in taking down Dominic. As it turns out, Sofia wants to exact revenge on NYL for causing her brother's suicide and is ready to go to any lengths to get them by the neck, even if that means putting her life and sanity into jeopardy.

Meanwhile, detective Vicky Bale (Lorna Brown) suspects that Massimo is involved in his colleague's death. Following the details from the forensic report, the police conclude that Ed was pushed from the building and hadn't exactly jumped to his death. At the moment, all the clues are leading police to Massimo. Particularly the confrontation he had with Ed in the elevator that stands starkly against him.

With three episodes in, 'Devils' is finally picking up pace. However, even now it looks like it might be easy for the show to lose its audience if it doesn't move fast enough. There are moments where the high finance jargon goes over the head making it difficult to keep up with the characters and their intentions. But it is in this episode that we finally do see 'Devils' weave the actual economic crisis into its plotline and we see more of Daniel Duval (Lars Mikkelsen), who runs the WikiLeaks-like Subterranea, which is, just like Sofia, eager to nail NYL and Dominic Morgan.

Directed by Nick Hurran, Episode 3 finds Massimo getting engulfed deeper and deeper in Dominic's game. Only now he knows that he is being played by a shark. "I've already lost one son. I don't want to lose another one," Dominic tells Massimo at the funeral service for his wife.

'Devils' will air Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW.
