COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA: A Columbian man, Devante Antonio Dinkins, didn't deem it was important to notify the authorities by calling 911 to report the death of his acquaintance. He instead took it on himself and buried the dead acquaintance in the backyard. The case dates back to September 2022.

As per the police, Dinkins, who is charged in relation to the suspicious death of a 24-year-male acquaintance, was at home with the victim on Kimpton Drive. The victim suffered a medical emergency and died on the spot, however, the 26-year-old Dinkin did not inform anyone and instead buried the body in a shallow grave.

On Friday, 16 September 2022, Dinkins removed the victim's body from inside the home and buried him in a shallow grave in the backyard of the house, the Columbia police department announced in a press release.  However, a witness noticed the soil had been moved from the backyard and as he suspected something wrong, he called the police. Dinkins was arrested and later released from the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after a judge issued a $10,000 bond. Dinkins is being charged with the "unauthorized removal of a dead body" according to a press release.

"An initial suspicious death investigation from last year resulted in a man being charged with burying his friend in a backyard," the Columbian police department wrote on Twitter as that shared the press release. Officials say 26-year-old Devante Dinkins is out on bond Wednesday while investigators still look into the suspicious death of his 24-year-old acquaintance.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident, a man identified as 34-year-old Jonathan Russell Saylor kept police and other investigation agencies on their toes after he locked himself in a hotel room of Hilton Garden Inn on 110 McSwain Driver for seven hours. Police had to use robots and several other agencies to persuade him to come out. As per a  WISTV report. Police were responding to a domestic violence call when he enacted the scene and even threatened law enforcement agencies with shooting them.

A robot was then released by SLED as well as a West Columbia Police Department drone to give law enforcement a better view of what was happening in the hotel room. The West Columbia Police Department took Mr Saylor into custody around 7:20 pm.
