BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: The Department of Defense was conducting a late-night training exercise at a Boston hotel on April 4, with the assistance of the FBI, when the federal agents barged into the wrong room at Revere Hotel. Following which, they mistakenly handcuffed a Delta Airline pilot, who was sleeping at that time and opened the door after he heard the agents banging on the door.

As per Yahoo!, the incident took place in room 1505 of the hotel where the federal agents interrogated the pilot for an hour, who reportedly is in his 30s but whose identity has been kept anonymous. Sharing the details, FBI said in a statement, "At approximately 10 pm on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, the FBI Boston Division was assisting the US Department of Defense in conducting a Department of Defense (DOD) training exercise at a hotel in Boston to simulate a situation their personnel might encounter in a deployed environment. Based on inaccurate information, they were mistakenly sent to the wrong room and detained an individual, not the intended role player.”

What happened inside the hotel room?

According to Insider, the officials handcuffed the man, put him in the shower, and interrogated him for more than 45 minutes. Upon realizing that they had made a mistake, they apologized to the man. Kristen Setera, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Boston division said, “Thankfully nobody was injured." The spokesperson added that the "Boston Police Department was called to the scene and confirmed the existence of a military training exercise," stated a report by Yahoo! EMS was also called to evaluate the pilot, who refused to get medical treatment.

'The training was meant to enhance soldiers’ skills'

Commenting on the matter, Lt Col Mike Burns of the United States Special Operations Command told Fox News, "First and foremost, we’d like to extend our deepest apologies to the individual who was affected by the training exercise." He added, “The training was meant to enhance soldiers’ skills to operate in realistic and unfamiliar environment. The training team, unfortunately, entered the wrong room and detained an individual unaffiliated with the exercise."

While Delta stated, "We are looking into reports of an alleged incident in Boston that may involve Delta people. We have nothing further to share at this time other than to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our people."

Vic Hartman, a 25-year veteran of the FBI, said, "Night arrests are unusual so why would you train for a night arrest at 10 pm. It's unusual, there could be a justification for it, it's just not apparent to me on the surface. On the face of it, it doesn't seem within protocol of most trainings."
