LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Dead bodies pile up in Hulu's murder mystery series 'Death and Other Details'. Despite the collective intellect of Imogene Scott (Violett Beane) and Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin), the duo has yet to unravel the mystery behind the string of murders aboard the luxury cruise ship.

Episode 8 of the series sheds a spotlight on the previously overlooked character, Llewellyn Mathers (Jere Burns), the Collier family's lawyer. His unexpected demise triggers shocking revelations that intensify the unfolding drama.

In the final scene of Episode 7, Jere Burns, portraying Llewellyn Mathers, makes a dramatic exit by jumping off the ship.

Teddy Goh (Angela Zhou), grappling with the aftermath of Mathers' apparent suicide, reflects on their deepening emotional connection.

Before his fateful jump, Mathers leaves Teddy a note, assuring her that his decision has no connection to her. Haunted by their last encounter, Teddy replays the memory repeatedly.

Mathers, in a heavily intoxicated state during their last meeting, confides in Teddy about the loss of the once-thrilling power he held as the Collier family's fixer.

Teddy realizes he wants solace and conversation about his feelings. Despite expressing dissatisfaction with his life, Mathers explicitly denies any intention of ending it during their conversation.

While struggling to comprehend the tragedy, she recalls a pattern in the recent murders. Danny Turner, too, received a drink on the night of his murder.

Suspicion arises as Teddy discovers a hole from a possible syringe alongside the corkscrew puncture in Mathers' '98 wine bottle, stored in the closet with other opened bottles.

Teddy pieces together a theory that Llewellyn Mathers was poisoned that challenges the initial assumption of suicide. However, it remains a mystery what made him jump off the ship.

Katherine Collier killed Llewellyn Mathers in 'Death and Other Details'

Upon the revelation that Llewellyn fell victim to poisoning, Imogene Scott and Rufus Cotesworth shifted their focus to the staff member responsible for delivering the wine.

He maintains his innocence and denies any involvement in tampering with the wine. He goes on to mention that Llewellyn's wine was ordered by Katherine Collier (Jayne Atkinson).

As Imogene and Rufus search Katherine's room, they find vials of poison, leading them to believe that Katherine assumed the identity of Viktor Sams, the alleged perpetrator behind the deaths of Danny Turner (Michael Gladis), Llewellyn Mathers and Alexandra Hochenverg (Tamberla Perry).

Katherine had motives to kill Llewellyn. Firstly, he knew all about the Colliers' illicit activities, and fearing him as a potential threat, she might have orchestrated his death.

Secondly, a past affair with Llewellyn is revealed, and it is found out that he was the biological father of Anna Collier (Lauren Patten).

Suppose Katherine cannot bring herself to eliminate him. In that case, the suspicion turns towards her husband, Lawrence Collier (David Marshall Grant), who exhibits an apparent lack of emotion upon learning about Llewellyn's death and considers his death a favor.

In the concluding moments of Episode 8, Leila Collier (Pardis Saremi) contemplates the possibility of Katherine being Viktor Sams.

However, this theory seems unlikely, as Anna discovers her mother's dead body in the pool.

Moreover, it does not add up. How can a woman entangled in the complexities of marriage, parenting, and affairs run a global network of spies, plan a series of murders, and establish a huge server on Sunil Bhandari's (Rahul Kohli) ship?

As few gunmen take over the ship, the mystery behind the real mastermind is yet to be disclosed in the two-episode finale.

'Death and Other Details' Episodes 9 and 10 will air on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
